Just got home and thought some of you might be curious as to how it went. 71 teams fished under very windy conditions ans some rain. Overall it was really a pretty nice day. 22 fish caught and 3 teams doubled. I believe the biggest was 431/2. Was a good time and I'll be back tomorrow. My partner and I had fish but all came up too short. Tomorrow is another day. Good luck to rest of the anglers.

Any word on how Sunday went?

The delayed start and hard rain for the first 3 hours was fun until i missed two legals on back to back bars... took the wind out of me.

Etzel and Parise Win Three Lakes on their Quest for the Grand Slam

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There were thirty-four legal muskies registered during the WMT's "BADGERLAND OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP"(TM) on June 14th and 15th, with twenty-two registered on Saturday and twelve on Sunday. The first muskie of the event was registered at 6:26am by Bill Jacobs and John Schmidt that measured at 34 1/2 inches. The largest muskie of the first day of the contest would score in at 43 1/4 inches at 7:10am by the team of John Cestkowski and David Godin. At 9:49am, John Kleczewski and Chuck LaMaide would be the first team to double up with a 35 3/4 inch muskie to go along with their first muskie of 39 1/2 inches at 7:12am. John and Andy Meyer had taken the lead at 10:00am with their second of the day that measured 38 inches, adding to their first muskie of 37 3/4 inches at 7:15am. The largest double of the day would be tallied by the team of Steve Schneider and Brandon Dunbar when they scored on two muskies, both of 42 1/2 inches long with the first coming at 12:53pm and the second at 3:08pm, giving the duo the first day lead.

Sunday morning brought thunder storms that delayed the start an half hour, but when the tournament started, not even the relentless rain could put a halt to the muskie activity as the team of Don Grant and Bob Weeks would score the first of the day at 7:07am with a 43 1/4" muskie that added to their previous days catch of 34 3/4 inches at 8:02am. At 7:57am, Dan Buss and Bob Chitty tallied a 37 3/4" muskie giving the team their second of the event with their first coming at 12:53pm Saturday and 42 3/4 inches. John and Andy Meyer would triple up for the contest at 10:00am and regain the lead with a 35 3/4 inch muskie. The father and son team of Greg and Tom Kliss tallied a 38 3/4" muskie at 9:00am to go along with their previous days fish of 34 3/4 incher and a top ten finish. Jason Weik and Jason Baratka would tally their second of the tourney at 9:48am and 42 1/4 inches to add to their Saturday's muskie of 41 1/4 inches at 9:57am that would land the team an eighth place finish with a ten point deduction. At 9:12am, the team of Mike Etzel and Paul Parise would score on their third muskie of the contest with a 38 incher with their earlier day's catch of 39 1/2 inches at 7:12am, that when added to their Saturdays catch of 35 1/4 inches at 8:22am, gave the team the victory. The last team to score on a muskie for the day and the contest would come at 12:29pm by Neil Barnett and Bill Hill with a 40 1/4 incher and would be the final team to double up for the event with a 36" muskie at 6:31am captured Saturday, but with a ten point deduction, would place the team at the nineth spot.

Other teams who tallied muskies on Saturday were: Tim Rutzen Sr. and Tim Rutzen Jr. 35" at 11:42am, Scott Gindt and Dave Miller 36" at 12:02pm, Ken and Keith Krejci 36 3/4" at 12:16pm, George and Patrick Kingsland 35" at 1:17pm, Earl and Travis Wilder 35 1/2" at 2:05pm, Dan and Mike Wojtusik 39" at 2:13pm, Gary Enos and Michael Albright 42 3/4" at 2:20pm, and Don Groskopf and Dan Winkler 38 1/4" at 3:37pm.

2nd - John & Andy Meyer
3rd - Steve Schneider/Brandon Dunbar
4th - Dan Buss/Bob Chitty
5th - Don Grant/Bob Weeks
6th - John Kleczewski/Chuck LaMaide
7th - Greg & Tom Kliss
8th - Jason Weik/Jason Baratka

The next tournaments for the WMT is a "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"(TM) weekend with the Pike/Round Lake Chain tournament o Saturday, June 28 and the Squirrel Lake tournament on Sunday, June 29. Because the Pike/Round Chain and Squirrel Lake tournaments are "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"(TM) weekend, the team who wins both of the tournaments back-to-back will win the $20,000.00 bonus, that would tally $40,000.00 for the weekend for the winning team with a full feild. During the weekend, anglers will be looking also to score big by capturing a 50 inch or better muskie to take home the more than $18,000.00 fifty inch pool.

Both of the Pike/Round and Squirrel tournaments still have some open spots. It is still possible to sign up for the events by logging on to the WMT's web site www.WMTseries.com for the entry form, and mailing it to the WMT. Also, you can sign up for the tournaments on Friday, June 27th at the Moose Jaw Resort on the shores of Round Lake from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. And you can sign up for the Squirrel Lake tourney Saturday night from 5:30pm to 6:00pm at Moose Jaw Resort also, with the headquarters for the Squirrel Lake event at Musky Shore's Resort.

All of the WMT's one-day tournaments and Major Open Championships are open to the public. You can fish in one tournament or as many as you like
