Does line color make a difference?

If you believe it does, why and what color for what type of water?

Do any of you still use Mono line? If so why and for what applications.

I'm think'n (scary I know) if they don't mind seeing the hooks, my acid frog colored Undertakers and a 9" steel wire leader line color means nothing...

Only superlines I've used is Cortland Spectron blackspot and origional Tuff which is salt/pepper as well... Tried some greyish/green looking Power pro last year but didn't like it so I took if off after two outtings.

I still use mono for trolling and am debating whether to spool my new creature rod with mono or one of the superlines.

Thanks for your input...

Mark

Update on the new Tuf-line XP...80lb.

Its really good stuff, strong and very very castable....But it looses the green just like the rest of them.

I really dont think white line scares them off...I still catch fish!![]

Jason I agree but got in a discussion the other evening with a few others that believe green or black is the hot ticket when it comes to line color...??

I still know a guy that uses that camoflage colored stuff that changes colors every few inches..

Is this simply another "use what you have confidence in" or is there something more to it??

Things that make you go hmmmm

I am still on the fence. I think it can make a difference. Last year my dad spanked me casting he used mono and I used superline. This year I have mono too and I am one up casting. The only rod I have superline on now is my jerkbait glider rod.

In my opinion if muskies were going to worry about line color they would not eat baits with big steel hooks or be caught 12 inches from your boat on figure 8's.

Just my 2 cents

Mark, any chance of making the Bone Lake outing?

I have fished Tuff Line since it was introduced to us Muskie Guys. I have won many tournaments with the salt and pepper color. I was a bit skeptical at first as I remember, but I have not really seen any adverse affect that the color of my line has had. After putting the newer super lines on most of my reels I can't imagine using mono again. Tried the mono for a trip or two last Fall, when I had one bite and set the hook, seemed like I had the darn thing on a rubber band. I will be using braid from now on. Salt and pepper Tuff line on all my jerk baits, topwaters and bucktails. Tuff xp on my cranks and Jigs. When the season is over I will decide which I like better and stick with it.

Let 'em go so that Ashton can catch 'em.....Mike[]

Dave,

I am thinking of going to the Bone Lk trip Friday night and fishing Sat. and then heading home. I can't do the whole weekend event but want to catch up with the boys for at least a day. Only 2 hours from the house so not a big deal for me.

Are you thinking of going??? Something to consider....bring the wife and stay at our house and we can drive to the event for a day and then fish locally as well???? I would need to get approval from my wife first but she is usually willing to go along with these things??

Take Care...

Mark

if you need to call me 715-836-7563 house, 715579-7463 cell

I just read you post under the outting post....if you want to bring the boys I'll go for sure so we have enough room for them.

I'm working with sworrall on another v-hull don't think I'll have it by then but there's enough room in my magnum for 3.

Hi Mark. Just my opinion but I think that line color is a confidence thing and that's it. Like you said, look at how distracting that thing called a lure is on the END of your line...how could line color really have an impact compared to that?

I don't worry about it. I fish TUF in whatever water color water I happen to be floating on that day.

I've gone through many lines in my first two years and so far I've caught fish on just about every color...green power pro...camo spiderwire muskie braid...clear mono...white whiplash...and white and black tuff line (different line for every fish I've caught) I think they are so keyed in on the lure they dont' worry about hooks, leaders, rod, line, ect.
