Posts: 7094 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I have 9 muskie rods, just for casting. 3 bass rods. 2 panfish spinning rods. 9 trolling rods Okay, so how can it be that it STILL takes me 2 hours to switch my trolling rods from "muskie ready" to "salmon setup"? Flashers, flies, spoons, swivels, snaps, leaders, lead core, dipseys!!!! Rods set up, now to finish work, get boat ready to go from muskies on Saturday to salmon on Sunday and/or Monday! What can I sell to be able to call Mark at Okuma and say "What's it going to be for 9 magda linecounters and 9 blue diamond rods?" Muskie garage sale here we come!!! I only throw 10 lures all year anyways! Thanks for listening to my rant, everyone have a fun and relaxing (yeah right) holiday weekend!

Posts: 317 Location: Grafton, WI | I sold 4 muskie combo's and went from 7 down to 3 this season.... to 1) save space in the boat and 2) allow me to pick up 4 seperate line-counter trolling combo's for salmon. I don't find myself changing lures as often as I used to, so I can deal with 3 setups.

BAH! I'd sooner sell the Magic Suick and the Bloody Shaker before I would even CONSIDER breaking up the Gang of 9. Reallllllly not wanting to be at work right now!

Posts: 468 Location: Not where I wanna be! | 9 Ski rods??? Id think youd be more of a serious angler than that..... you need a dozen more, minimum..... you'd need another boat to tow in tandem just for your gear..... kinda like a trailor that floats......

| i've settled in at 6 dedicated muskie combos, plus a bass swimbait stick, 2 walleye spinning rods, and 4 muskie trolling sets with linecounters. they all fit in the Tuffy's rod locker, so i'm okay with what in some ways is a ridiculous amount of gear to have. the problem is i was spending waaaayyy too much time looking at rod ratings in the Rollie and Helen's catalog last night! i "escaped" with just ordering 300yds of Invisi-braid, a Smity twitchbait, and a shallow running Reef Digger... | |||

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | Slamr, take that big ole cooler you bought for putting fish in, sell that because you only need a 20 qt cooler to hold the fish you catch, then get some reels with the extra money you have left over. Looking forward to putting the chrome in the boat. Now I just need more rod holders to get more lines in the water.

Posts: 1316 Location: Madison, WI | I think my wife would have a fit if she only knew. She keeps nagging me about getting everything into one place, but If I did that, I know it's going to lead to huge fight! I can put up with the nagging. It's just like her shoes and mac makeup. I never want to see all of her stuff in the same place.

Posts: 275 | How about all that and flyrods? I hope I can take them to heaven, because I am surely going to die when I finally get all the rods I need. tom

| I ran 9-10 rods from a 15.5 lund out of waukegan on regular basis. I believe you have a bigger boat, so you need far more than 9 rods.... | |||

Posts: 433 Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | I feel your pain. When I was into salmon I eventually aquired enough stuff that I didn't have to switch. When I sold the old deep V to my friend's son I threw in the riggers, holders, mast, planer boards, four Ugly Stick downrigger rods with ABU 6500's, four dipsey rods with ABU 7000's and a Fish Hawk unit that measured speed and temp at depth with a downrigger transducer. Hurt to get rid of all the goodies but there was no sense having it become homes for the spiders in the basement. I couldn't part with the big giant boxes of lures though. Too many are no longer made and most will do double duty as walleye lures or pike lures. I hope he enjoys them now fishing Lake Superior as much as I did on Lake Michigan. Back in the "early" years all my stuff did double duty and as you said, switching over was a nightmare.

Nine rods for casting and nine rods for trolling is all very reasonable if you are already a millionaire and don't know the meaning of debt. But if you're not a millionaire yet, or if you have any kind of debt, well...

But if you're not a millionaire yet, or if you have any kind of debt, well... and if someone is not a millionaire, but also does not have any debt? personally, i view fishing as a luxury and i spend disposable income on it. as in, income that i can dispose of how i choose because i've already paid the bills first.
