Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I have a 619. Totaled trailer. Got new one. Insurance selling old trailer at auction. Called and asked me for title to old trailer. Looked. Couldn't find. Called DOT. Never had trailer titled. DOT said 3000 lbs or more should be titled.
News to me.
How many of you titled your trailers? |

| I live in WI as well and I never titled my trailers either. DOT told me that as long as the trailer itself doesn'y weigh more than 3000lbs no titled is required. Kind of seemed strange to me but that is what they told me. |

Just got off phone with WI DOT.
If COMBINED weight of load and trailer exceed 3000 lbs, law says must have titled AND liscenced. If cop sees you do not have a plate and are pulling a big rig, you will be ticketed.
So it is NOT trailer weight, it is COMBINED load and trailer weight. |

| Cops must have other things on their mind. I can't recall seeing any big rig with a license plate on it here. Mine doesn't. |

Location: davis,IL | I live in NW Illinois, here they must be titled, at least the heavier ones. Years ago I bought a trailer used that had no title and was told I had to have a title to get plates. Found out I could just apply for a "homemade trailer title", did so and all was good. Keep in mind this was 20 + years ago, cost like $10 to apply and register the title + cost of plates. Your right though that cops have nothing better to do, although a sharp cop might just notice that your trailer plates don't match your vehicle plates and maybe catch somebody ripping off your trailer (far fetched, but who knows).
