What net do you like best:
The Beckman Fin Saver or
The Frabill Pen

Looking to get a new net and would like input (pro and con) on these nets.

Hey Ralph I really like the Beckman Pen. The fin saver meshing is nice but I like the larger (holes) coated mesh in the PEN style they have. The larger mesh reduces the drag threw the water and is still pretty gentle on the fish.

Ralph,

These sort of posts can get a little out of hand in a hurry so let me see if I can start this one off and not start a "my nets better than your net" thread...

For the record my favorite all time net is the Frabill Kwik-Kradle. This is the best net for the fish..hands down.. and landing fish is a breeze.

Now they are not in current production however you can find them on the swap boards and other places if you look for them. If you want one e-mail me and I'll call Mark at Frabill and we'll find you one.

Current production models from both companies offer knotless coated bags, however I like the size of the mesh on a Frabill bag a little better. Both models have deep enough bags to always leave the fish in the bag while your working on it and getting ready to take pictures..

Both models offer large hoops which makes it easy to land and work on fish.

Jason and others will tell you they love their Beckmans and Scott Jenkins and I will tell you we love our Frabills as we are all pro-staff members with one or the other companies.

Bottom line...
Both companies make good products, buy the largest net you can keep in your boat. Learn good catch and release skills and practice them on every fish.

I used Frabill for many, many, years before I was pro-staff with them and love their products. I also used a Beckman without problems for years, I went to Frabill because of their hoop/handle/yoke design and when they came out with the Kwik-Kradle I gave away my hoop nets.

Currently I am using both the Kwik-Kradle and a Big-Game series hoop style in my smaller boat.

Good luck,

Mark

My 2 cents is on the Beckman fin saver. Have yet to see a cut fun.

But as far as releasing tools...both are good. I still see guys with blue kmart nets on the lake...and thats sends shrills up my spine.

I have a beckman Fin Saver, looks like a great net. I bought it at one of the shows this winter. Almost got a change to use it this weekend but the Musky didn't cooperate. I am sure once I get off the schnide (sp) this year I will have great things to say about it.

If you are thinking about that Big Kahuna, take your boat with you to the retailer. See if you can find a place to store it in your rig. Its a monster! If you get a beckman you can modify it to float. Get a can of spray insulation and seal the ends of the hoop and the pole on that badboy and she will float.

I have three Frabill nets, a Cradle, and two Power Catch nets. All are great nets. I also have two Beckman nets I gave to my son, with TONS of experience. Both companies make good product, and both have pretty good people making, selling, and promoting the nets.[]

Red or Lunch,
By making the hoop float, does it make it harder to get the net deeper in the water to net fish? the handle part is a great idea though.

Ralph - here's my two cents:

After fishing with Beckman Nets for the last 10 years, I have literally stepped into the Frabill Big Kahuna!

These are awesome nets. The following are some key points that caused me to switch over:

1) The handle has been designed with ergonomics in mind. It is triangular and fits nicely into your hand. There is a nice rubber handle on the end and the pole is knurled to give you added gripping ability.

2) The power catch shaped handle means that the pole won't turn when looking to lock in the spring button. This is very important when you want to keep the net stored in the boat without the handle extended all the way out. The spring button will hit the hole every time.

3) The yoke is heavy duty extruded aluminum.

4) The yoke is black which will eliminate glare and anodized which will resist corrosion (rust).

5) The hoop features internal cross-x extrusion which gives it unbelievable strength and support - again backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

6) The net is coated which allows for tangle free use as well as prolongs the life of the net. Hooks can't get embedded into the net which is extremely important!

7) The net is knot-free! No knots to hurt the fish.

8) The Big Kahuna is as big as it sounds. I won't have to worry about the size of the fish going into this thing - it's massive!
