Location: east central mn | Just bought one the other day and was wondering what the rubber thing, with the hole on the handle is for?. Bash away boyz. Thanks for putting me out of my misery.

Location: Ogden, Ut | It's for holding the net bag out of the way if/when you have to net a fish one-handed.

Location: Hayward, WI | Yep, althought I have heard it isn't a good idea to use it. Sounds like if you have the bag in there enough to hold the net out of the way, it doesn't always want to release, and then you have no real bag to net the fish in.
Never tried using it due to those reviews. Haven't had a problem netting fish with it alone by not using the rubber thing.
I do have what seems like a good idea for it. If you put the net handle in a rod holder, I would slide the rubber stopper to the back of the rod holder to keep the net from sliding at all.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I've used the rubber tab and it worked ok for me. Curlytail, I think the key is not to put too much of the net in the hole of the black rubber piece, just enough to hold and to also allow it to drop once you lift the fish. |

| this works great on any net...i measured up the handle to where the end of the net would be when being held against the handle. then simply drilled a hole in the handle and attached a release from an old planer board i had. you can adjust the tension to the thickness of the net bag material just like adjusting various thickness / types of line when using the release for what it was intended for. as the fish's snout crosses over the hoop it doesn't take much pressure to trip the release! works like a charm!
