Posts: 26 Location: Wisconsin | OK I finally got the new boat home and am starting to rig it and have a couple of questions. I want to run the transducer and a speed wheel on the transom. I was thinking of screwing a block of plastic to the boat ( don't know what it is called ) and then mounting everything to that. Question 1 were is the best place to put a transducer on a Ranger 618T? and if anyone has done this and has pictures that would be great. Second I am going to run a LCX 38 HD in the back and a LMS 520 on the bow, with the 520 I am going to use the univeral transducer on the minnkota and then network the 2 units together to use just the 1 gps puck from what I read is that the way this is done? also what is the best way to run the network wire thru the Ranger? Thanks, Tom P

Posts: 385 | Ranger folks are thoughtful enough to provide pvc routing tubes under the decks of your boat so the wiring can be routed easily. As for the transducer? I have a skimmer mounted right of the main motor even with the bottom line of the transom as far from the motor as possible. This provides an excellent reading while fishing, but I occasionally lose depth on plane. If you find a better place to mount that transducer, let me know! I wouldn't even bother mounting a speed wheel.

Posts: 26 Location: Wisconsin | Thanks Matt I am probly going to put it on the right side like you said. That way I can run the wires thru the same hole as the motor wires. As far as the speed wheel what if there is a global positioning crisis and the fish are biting and you need to be going a precise speed, what would you go off of. LOL. Thanks, Tom P.

Posts: 385 | Tom, if you look at the inside of the transom above the splashwell, there are two vinyl caps that stick over the holes in the transom. I notched one of those and fed the transducer wire through there and put the vinyl notched circle back over the hole. It looks nice and neat that way.

Posts: 26 Location: Wisconsin | I am just wrapping up the Lowrance network installation, and it went pretty good with a lot of help from Jody from Pamps. He told me to bring the units in and he showed me just what I needed to network them together and how to hook it up. It's alot more than just a network wire to each one. Really good service, especially considering that boat was not purchased from there. Tom P.

I networked my units with the instruction manuals I got for my Lowrance X-27's. so yes, they come with the correct instructions to do it. However, understanding all of it can be difficult. But I didn't feel it was bad.
