Posts: 193 Location: Mayer, MN | Hats off to those involved, keep up the hard work. Received this in my email yesterday afternoon. My only concern is that, and I'll quote "During the comment period, 573 individual comments were received". Are you telling me only 573 individuals made an effort to comment or give input on the future of Pike and Muskie management in the State of Minnesota. That is very disappointing from the surface. Jason Roberts -Email- Greetings, You are receiving this email because you provided comments on an earlier draft of the long range plan and provided us with your email address. On behalf of the Department of Natural Resources, I thank you for taking the time to share your perspectives. Attached is an updated draft of the Long Range Plan for Muskellunge and Large Northern Pike 2020. The next step includes a standard interdisciplinary review inside the Department of Natural Resources, which is normally about a month long process. Pending that review and additional public input we will work on finalizing the plan in the coming months. The following highlight some of the bigger changes since the version that was distributed at the roundtable in January: 1) Added Introduction, Purpose and Overview (including climate change) 2) Included summary of public input 3) Reorganized muskellunge section 4) Added considerable background and history on northern pike management and revised Objectives for addressing northern pike size structure statewide 5) Added Appendices with list of lakes managed for Muskellunge and Northern Pike with Special and Experimental Lakes, including lake acres 6) Added checklist for new proposals (Appendices E & F) 7) Clarified that public input includes a meeting in addition to all of the other important input opportunities 8) Included list of workshop participants (as a matter of being open and transparent we believe that readers should know who was involved) Please contact me if you have questions, concerns or would like to comment on the plan. Sincerely, Jason Jason B. Moeckel Fisheries Operations Support Supervisor Division of Fish and Wildlife, Section of Fisheries Management 500 Lafayette Rd. Posts: 75 | I received the same email from Jason. It is more than I got from the State Rep I contacted this winter about the possible change in the spearing laws. I hope the professionals are given a chance to do their work. Now if they only can stock the lake I suggested..... | ||
