| Manitowoc County looks good. Relatively pro musky crowd there. No negative comments. The only spiritied discussion of the evening involved anger over the way the Northern zone season was introduced. Next year a resoution supporting repealing that rule might be in order. Someone out there have a connection out here who might be willing to introduce a law repealing it in the legislature? It was suggested as a resolution tonight, but the person who was going to quickly write it up did not get it done in time. | |||

Location: Green Bay, WI | Thanks for the update Rob, and thanks for your efforts. As for repealing the northern zone (C&R) law, I believe there is group looking at the possibilities. I am not sure where that effort is right now, but I do know that last night's CC hearing effort was only the tip of the iceberg. TB

Posts: 54 | i think things went well here in forest county. i seemed to have support for the 54"resolution and all seemed against the c&r season that mr. meyer snuck in. this made me happy. the congress members helped discuss this and how shady of a deal it was. we wont know til votes come out. i also spoke up about enterprise lake musky proposal . the good news is musky john nominated me for the congress and i got on. thanks johnnie. i hope others consider getting on to give us a stronger voice for the musky folks. dannyboy www.dannyboysguideservice.com

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I was in attendance in Langlade Co. and intentionally ignored the GB proposal. It would be an absolute anomaly for anything like that to be supported in Langlade, and sometimes it is just best to let sleeping dogs lie. I wish I had a better feeling for the Enterprise 50", but my gut tells me that this proposal also lost in its home county. Still a whole bunch of meat hunters in my area that don't like the idea of more restrictions.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Well then the correct decision was made Norm... The last thing we want is a heated debate over an issue that has very little to do with that county, yet *represents* something much bigger. Thanks for the report. TB

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | I agree with Gerard, there were a lot of antis in attendance, and one in particular was very vocal. She, or one of her cohorts, even drafted a resolution or two. Gotta give her credit in that she stands up for what she believes in even if I don't agree with her views. I noticed more of the antis this year than last year. Look back at the post that listed the 2007 results by county and you'll notice that two very liberal counties, Dane and Milwaukee, had a lot of "no" answers to the 54" limit. To me, being from a liberal county, this sets a dangerous precedent unless we get more of the outdoors people to attend and vote. I saw a handful of Muskies Inc members from our local chapter. Perhaps we need to make a stronger statement at monthly meetings about the importance of attending and voting. Just a suggestion to help enhance our position when we have the opportunity to have our voice heard thru a ballot. Yes, last years numbers indicate a strong pro musky trend. We need to ensure this continues. The one anti who was very vocal was a former CC delegate I believe.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Excellent post. We in the Wisconsin Chapters of MI really need to push for 80-90% PLUS attendance from our members. It simply makes no sense not to! There aren't that many people that show up at most of these things, and a strong showing of support can mean all the difference. I will speak with Jay Zahn (new Muskies Inc. VP of Communications) about some sort of cohesive effort for next year. We are being given an incredible opportunity to be heard at these hearings, yet many simply do not take advantage of it. Well, I guess we have a whole year to work on it... TB

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | All of the members of Wisconsin Musky Clubs need to do their part and attend the CC meetings not just the Muskies Inc. Members. I know some guys who fish GB as much or more then me and they were not there last night. I am disapointed. I am very busy, yet I made the time.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Jo, It is pretty sad the attendance turnout at these things. We holler and yell all winter long about how this limit should be changed and that rule should be changed, and yet the one night a year that really makes a difference in these rule changes...........nobody goes. Statewide there were less than 7000 people voting at the hearings. These 7000 people control what we as sportsmen do. Very sad that more can't give up an hour or two to have their votes counted.

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | You don't even have to sit through the whole hearing. Yes it can get very long and most issues don't effect your interests. You can get there early and complete the ballot and leave. The write in proposals are posted so those can even be voted on. I stay for the whole hearing so that I can comment on musky related issues and be present to expand on the write in proposal. I asked about a seat on Winnebago County's CC but the 2 seats were very well represented with the head chair of 42 years. I told them I was interested and to let me know if they ever need anyone. He said Outagamie strugles to fill all of their spots.

Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | If you could not make it to a meeting and wanted to vote could you get a ballot at the d.n.r. office and vote there? Not everyone has nights off or just out an out get to disgusted at these meetings to go. If a person can get them ahead of time they could them to all the club members. Pfeiff Actually you can just show up at the meeting, get the ballot, vote and leave. Would take a person 5 minutes to do so. As for getting disgusted, what are you getting disgusted with? If you are so disgusted wouldnt you want to vote to try and sway things in your favor instead of letting the people who disgust you win simply because they showed up? Seems like excuse making to me. The meetings are announced well in advance to plan accordingly. That said I should probably take my own advice as I forgot to ask off and got scheduled to work, but I made sure I found a way to get there and give my vote.

Norm, you make an excellent point about the numbers...everyone should remember these 7000 that atteneded are not all sportsman/sportswomen. There are a number of anti-hunting/fishing in attendance trying to get things swayed their way, too.

Location: The Yahara Chain | Gerard you could have missed some people. I voted and I don't think anybody saw me. I had my little one with me so I just voted and left. I hope the GB resolution was resolution question #1. I was told that it was. I saw the pussycats...not bad looking. If you are going to have anti's, they should at least dress like that.

Posts: 1270 | nwild, I hate to sound negative but the 7000 people who were there and voted (I was one of them) do not set the what we do for hunting and fishing. If we did then we wouldn't have had to vote on the GB 54" thing again. It won overwhelmingly last year yet we have to do it all over again because it was tabled. And even if it's not tabled there is no assurance that it will get passed or even come up for a vote again. Look at the feral cat issue? Overwhelming support and the NRB would not even bring it up for discusion. So much for our voice being heard. These meetings are a joke! Don't we hire people in the DNR to come up with laws and such already? I honestly believe we are setting us up for a serious problem with these hearings. Imagine if one year the anti's came out in real force without letting the rest of the pubic know? They could get all the CC seats and pass whatever they wanted. I believe that we are the only state that has something like this and tell me how it makes our fishing or hunting any better? It might make some people feel better and it's always good for a couple laughs when the idiot who doesn't have a clue stands up and starts talking though!
