| In my opinion, my favorite time to fish the Chip is the last 2 weeks of August and the first 2 weeks of September. I believe that the fish start getting ready for fall in mid-August, I believe they key on the shortening days. It seems like a lot of big fish start coming out of the woodwork. I think these big fish have been deep or suspended "out in the ozone" for much of the season.
The temps ron from the mid to upper 70's down to around 60 degrees. It seems when the Chip hits the upper 50 degree mark, things start to change a bit. I always plan to be on the Chip as much as possible during these 4 weeks. Daytime fishing can be good and evenings can be awesome.
Paul has it right as to my favorite baits. I throw a lot of Bootails to cover water. Black tail with a lime green blade is #1, but I also like black/orange, black/brass, and a gray/brass Ghost Tail. In low light, I love surface baits. Top Raiders or Topper Stoppers when it's choppy, Globes, Creepers, and Hawg Wobblers when calm. One of my rods ALWAYS has a 9", unweighted Suick on it. I use orange, perch, black/white, and just about any color except solid black (one of my quirks).
Good Fishing,
Dave Dorazio
