Bought a couple of the 8 inch Manta's today. Never thrown them before but they sure seem to have some small hooks on them. Do you guys switch to a couple bigger hooks ???

Nate,

My Hang ten has some good ones on it. They look like Mustad from the coating on them. These are on an older Manta and are T-ed. They are short shank if that is what you mean. I like a little longer shank myself but with them being T-ed that lets the hook points hang on the outside of the lure which helps with your hook up %.

Both of them? No, I just replace the front hook to the next larger size. If you do both, good chance of those two hooks fouling up together on each cast. You don't need that and the way the bait runs, the muskie often hits the bait sideways and almost always get hooked on the front hook.

I would think that the bigger front hook would make them run a little deeper...

So..................................

I really doubt that going from a 4/0 to a 5/0 is THAT much weight to affect the lure. The last time I check those fish had fins and are able to swim from the bottom to the top of the lake.

On the package it says to keep the hooks that same size........ just wondering if anyone put 5/0 on them. 4/0 just seems a little to small.
