62-63" piece of oak 2X4 (pretty sure, will have to double check though). 72" metal ruler cut down to 60". Laid down on center of board and made flush using strips of balsa wood on top of the oak. Piece of scrap wood used to make the bump part of the board as well as a side wall. Brush with an all-weather sealer and coat (3X) with clear coat of your choice (used a polyurethane sealant).

Here are pics.

Yeah, that sounds right. 2X4 would be a lot bigger. In any case, Cowboy... you get the picture (lol).

One thing I would add to Sean's board would be to extend the bump part down the length of the board so you can bump the fish up against that as well to ensure the fish is in a straight line.

Or just estimate lenght in Hands, you can find your weight in stones later.

Forgot to mention we used wood glue to adhere the balsa to the main board, then used small nails to again secure the balsa, covering the holes with wood filler. They are definitely fun to make and you can customize to your discretion. I would have liked to add a couple hinges, but just didn't work out. Good luck.

Cowboyhannah, I have an extra one that you may be intrested in? It's 60" split and hinged at 30" made out of cedar. Measuring device is aluminum and is dadoed into the wood.

HAHAHA... I consider myself a realist I guess

Actually, that's how it fit best in our boat.

I think those are made by Dunwright, although the one pictured on their site looks different.
