![]() Posts: 282 Location: north west wisconsin | Ok so I tried the search button 4 times and it just is not working for me. Ive seem to lost my notes and was wandering if someone could enlighten me on what the muskies should be doing in accordance with the water temps ie.. location depths, spawning. Im sure this has been covered but was hoping someone would be able to help me out. thanks Tony

Posts: 572 | "In Missouri, muskie spawn from late March to early April when water temperatures reach the upper 40's to mid 50's F. " Missouri Conservation Department Minnesota has some interesting comments......... The muskie spawns when the water temperature is 48 to 59 degrees, about two weeks later than the northern pike. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fish/muskellunge/biology.html In Leech Lake, for example, muskie spawn offshore in 3 to 6 feet of water. then, there's "early season muskie locations" http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/article.asp?aid=1224 http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fish/muskellunge/muskie_northern.html you might try doing a yahoo or google search on "muskie spawning temperature"........

Posts: 227 Location: New Brighton, MN | There was a good article in the spring Muskie Hunter last year talking about early season muskie behavior. Specifically movements around spawning periods. It said that the fish start moving to their spawning areas even as the ice is still melting, that females head back to their summer patterns quickly after spawning (a week or less), but the males hang around the spawning grounds a bit longer.

Posts: 572 | the articles in Muskie First are listed under the News section. The one I referred to is listed in 2007. Not sure a search is needed there, but it might be helpful.
