Hello, everyone. I haven't posted here in a while, so I thought I'd post a few of the baits I recently finished. Hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the 2008 musky season:

Some decent work there fatfingers! Particularly like #7, lots of detail work especially like the pearl over white on the belly. Also nice work with incorporating the gift wrap holopaper in #12 & #14, sweet! As for the green leaf variegated foil on the second last lure, how the #@ll did you get it to paste nice & flat like that? I tried three different applications with different glues & tried to smooth out the wrinkles with the softest brush I could find but still ended up with wrinkles & tears every time. Keep up the good work.

Whoa! You guys are too kind. I appreciate it and I mean that sincerely.

Pikester, I just use all-purpose spray glue for the foil. I just lay it on and press it down with my thumbs.

I'm also working on a threadfin shad in a natural pattern. I came with a template that closely mimics the threafin shad and I've done a variety of paint patterns over this new prototype, but the one that I really want is the "natural." I've tested it in the water and it runs really nice.

Here's what I've got so far, but I'm going to keep trying because I'm learning as I go...my objective is to try to paint the bait so that it changes colors like a real threadfin shad. I've got some color changes going on, but I'm hoping I can get closer if I keep trying.

Hey Guys,

I'm actully just a fisherman and not a bait maker.

That said, there are times when I almost feel ashamed for buying store-bought stock lures and this is one of those times.

Knowing what I know now, if I had to do it all over again, I think I would just order a bunch of custom baits.

Some of the stuff you guys have been turning out lately just leave me speechless.

Best,

Todd

I agree with Riverman on that lil' round one. Reminds me of a Hot-n-tot on 'roids. All your baits look awesome!

Thanks, again, you guys. Comments like that always feel good, but coming from some of the amazing builders here is really a good feeling.

Joe, thanks for the kind words. The bent lip thing is a way of modifying the action (from bait to bait without having to change the lip slot angle) and hopefully adding a bit of strength and deflection when banging the bait off rocks and logs to trigger strikes.

Man I love these lures! I always liked your paint and finish work. It's always super clean and well done. The bent lips are awesome as well. I'm assuming you use heat and by looking at the lip there is no discoloration or melt. Very very nice work! The shad is killer, but so are the rest.
