Was at Rollies over the weekend and saw they are selling sets of D-10s rigged onto wire with lure body/beads w/no skirt bodies...then selling different colored skirt bodies with hooks seperately...attach with split rings and swap blade colors and bodycolors to create different combos.

I know Mepps does this with their boos....

Me being cheap, I'm thinking of cutting up some of my one piece tails and re-rigging them this way...

Anyone see any draw backs to this arrangement?

defintely works good with the mepps, would wonder if a bigger jointed bucktail would be subject to more tangling as the mepps sometimes do if it had a joint in it. also with the way the double 10s suck the material back up toward the blade wonder if it would give the bucktails some extra movement or screw it up somehow.

That is the way I make my own. Makes it easy to travel light, just grab a couple colors of skirts and all the blade combos and head out.

Chad---that's what Im looking at doing. Have you put that set up to the test yet? I was concerned about the blades sucking up the jointed tail section.

I ran these all last season, there were fish up to 46" caught. Mid season I went from a 1/2 oz on the back of the skirt to 3/4 oz. It helped stop the fouling during the cast. The split in the middle actually seems to let things float around a bit more IMO.

U should CK out MUSKY METAL LURES he makes DOUBLE 10 BUCKTAILS out of flexable wire. No more bend wire. R&H had the exchangeable sets at the CHICAGO SHOW.

I've been making tails like this for friends for quite awhile. They like it because they have to carry less baits. Personally, I still prefer a one piece tail, but I can definitely see the attraction.

Fouling on the cast is really not much of an issue.

I will be offering kits like this at the Blaine Expo. 4 blade sets and 4 bodies in a Plano box

I have been messing around with this idea for some time now. Adds more action to the bucktail and more options.
I did get the idea from mepps.

I just read my last post and should clarify. The tail section floats around more during the retreive but I have not had it foul due to the vortex from the blades. Just had a few times where it fouled on the cast and the extra weight took care of that. Mess around with them it is fun.

With the two pieces would that make the strike less effective? Just seems that the skirt and hooks might move to much (out of the way) as the fish is hitting it. What are your thoughts about that?
I like the idea though, no more 50lb. Lakeland boxes to carry around.

I've been tying them like this for a while, and I've never had the issue of hooking fish due to the bait moving. When those fish eat, they usually get what they want. Never had any issues with them tangling or missing fish, other than stupid mistakes.

I'd post a pic, but for some reason, I can't figure out how to reduce it with my new software. If I can figure it out, I'll post one.
