Nik's 3 biggest (his first and biggest was when he was 4), and Dane's first (he was 3 at the time).

Proud times indeed.

I've been waiting for a chance to brag about my kids... Thanks Ranger - great Post!

My oldest son, Tyler, boated 3 big Northerns in just over 15 minutes during an honest "boat ride" on LOTW last August. All over 36" and the largest was 41.5" It was an unbelievable series of events to watch his PB go from a 6 lb. Northern to a 20+ pounder right in front of our eyes...
Tyler, his sister Emma, Uncle Hayden, and Grandpa Tom and I left the dock only intent on a quick ride out on the lake. I threw 3 rods and 3 baits in the boat - just cuz that's who I am and when we hit the channel my Dad (Grandpa) looked at me and said, "well, should we throw for a minute while we're here?" DUH - and it was the highlight of my summer.... my second cast of a TopRaider and Emma reeled in a nice mid 30" snake and then Big brother, Tyler, worked his magic on a 4 dollar Flea Market Spinner bait.

Crappies through the ice last Sunday, Suckers in the St. Croix on a hot summer day, or casting for Esox.... my 2 oldest kids have done me proud and we're waiting for little Logie Bear (16 mos.) to be able to palm his first reel and join us...

Side note on the Mount - Released Fish -

but my wife's Dad (Grandpa Ray) carried a picture of his Grandson's big fish around with him for weeks.... Ray, not being a fisherman, knew nothing about Mounts or Replicas for that matter. After bragging up his grandson at the Cafe and having to to tell everyone that we let it go...."It's just what my son-in-law always does. Makes Tyler put them back." Ray decided that he wanted to get a mount of the big fish.

Now, you'll have to take my word, Ray doesn't have the kind of bank account to go making rash decisions like this and I knew absolutely nothing about his quest.... you can imagine how swelled up I got when Tyler opened up the "LAST" present on Christmas morning and the card that went with it was a real "tear-jerker". My father-in-law hit a HOMERUN... the big lived to swim another day, and Grandpa got a mount for all the right reasons -
to Remember the day
to remember the time with family
and to keep for a lifetime to remember Grandpa by......

P.S. it's the only mount in our house!

Fun looking at the kids and their fish. My youngest daughter was 12 when she landed this 43.5 incher at Pomme de Terre in Missouri.

Great post. Who doesn't like to talk about their kid(s)?

I'm actually starting to get jealous of mine... he's caught more muskies at the age of six than I had by the time I was 18 - I wouldn't have it any other way!

Here is my oldest last summer with her first topwater bass. This Year I hope to get her onto some musky.

Um, taking a look at that picture, I dont want to be the bearer of bad news or anything, but...you do realize you had a son right?

I thought I had changed the text on that post, once I realized I did not have the pic of my daughters first topwater bass. I guess I'll have to post that one from home..

No bad news on the boys though.... I love em to death....they just can fish like their big sister

This picture is from the first year my son had started catching muskies. He was 8 at the time and using a baitcaster like a pro. Not long after he caught this fish he somehow managed to let go of the rod on the cast loosing his favorite Weagle that he'd caught all his muskies on that year. As I'm watching a $200 combo sink out of sight he's crying about his Weagle. LOL It had a happy ending though when I managed to find line that'd tangled on the trolling motor and pulled the whole thing back up. Since I didn't get arrested I assume nobody on the lake thought I was beating him (because of how upset he was over the weagle). He caught seven muskies that year, all but two on a Weagle, and this one was the biggest at 41"! Photobucket

My daughter's first fish. She has as much fun throwing them back and watching them swim away as she does actually catching them. Always a blast when she wants to go fishing. Hope to get her out after muskie this year, maybe at least let her see one so she can start catching the sickness!!

My daughters 1st ski , when she was 6 , was a 48 incher. She was holding the rod when it hit. We don't use rod holders. She battled it all the way including one of those highlight reel , full body out of the water jumps. Landed with a huge crash and splash. She held until it started during power dives under the boat and I helped her. 1/2 way in she said "dad I can't hold it, I said YES you can , you do it ! . It was priceless and at that time tied me for PB. LOL She's a sauger slayer with a jig/minnow at age 12 now. MD

Many of you know Pointer and might agree that he is a pretty darn good fisherman.

Well, he has been an angler from day one. Some memories...

There was our first trip to Canada as a family. Mike was certainly in his element. There were 6 of us, my wife, mike, step kids dave and michelle, and niece kristy. We had two boats to use, so at the age of 12 mike captained one boat, and I captained the other.

It was a great week of fishing, we always stuck to the same areas, but he was flawless in keeping every safe, and helping the others in his boat catch fish. At the age of 12 he was already helping others catch fish.

As much time as he would spend helping others... he was still nailing them on his own. There were no muskies in the lake we were in, but he caught his share of nice pike, walleye by the boat load, and some awesome perch.

Up to that point I knew he loved fishing, but with that trip I knew he would be doing more than just fishing. He loves the sport, and gets just as much enjoyment helping others get fish than himself.

Some other stories... we would do some salmon and steelhead fishing in the Root River. We were sporting waders, and walking the river... never seemed to fail that he would be the first to get a fish. Some of my favorite times were when we would fish the river in winter. Not many people around, and could still walk the river, sight fish and find steelhead.

A funnier story, Mike and I were fishing Pelican lake. We were along a shoreline, that was a good spot for smallies, nothing big, but usually some good action. I think Mike was maybe 5 or 6 at the time. Well he casts out, two turns of the reel and bam, he gets hit, sets the hook and starts reeling. The rod doubles over, and I hear "dad, I got a big one here!" I pick up the net, the rod is doubled over, and you can just see the bounce of the rod, and the weight underwater. He is fighting the fish on the right side of the boat, then a run to the left, it stays there, then a run to the right, back and forth... this was going to be quite the fish! Well a few minutes of fighting, and finally comes into view... and it was one heck of a rock. Yep, a rock. I think we were over a hole, and when he would free the rock from one side, it would swing to the other, pulling drag then resting on the other edge. The swing was always erratic because of the shape... I tell ya, I still chuckle over that one.

Mike has caught his fair share of big fish, numbers of fish, and everything from perch to muskie. He has always been a great fishing partner, and I enjoy every moment we can get on the water.

As a dad, I could not have asked the good lord for a better fishing partner. I look forward to new memories, and more great times! I am as proud of him as any dad could be for a son.

All the best,

Greg Bolinski

Here is my oldest son, John posing with his first two muskies, one of which was captured on film on the "We Live Outdoors" TV Show when he caught and released his first ever thity-eight incher! My other son Matthew shows off his first ever musky, a thirty-eight inch fish from Eagle River, WI. Enjoy...

I've been hanging with MuskieFirst for quite a while. I think that this thread is one of the very very best that's ever been created, with credit due to all you folks who posted such great pics and stories of your wonderful kids. I'm so very pleased to read the proud tales and see the fantastic pictures. Way to go everybody everyone who contributed.

How about some more!!!!!

There should be a "Hall of Fame Threads" page and this one should be the very first.

Thanks everybody; I appreciate each and every contribution.
