| what is everyones favorite baits to use during early to mid spring?do you guys stay with the big baits or do you dow grade?do you fish baits fast or do you fish slow?i guess it all really depends on the way the fish are but i just want to hear your opinion that you like....

Location: Waukesha, WI | Perka will be the first bait in the water this spring worked slowly for me. Shallow Invader will be clipped on too. I'll probably setup and shortline some Krushers I picked up from Keith at the Milwaukee show. Slopmasters will probably get the call too. |

| what are some good baits for the opening day for lakes in the twin cities?

Location: Illinois | Can't comment towards the twin cities, but where I fish in Illinois and Indiana, I like small baits such as Spring Dawg, Crane 206, Double Showgirl, and Storm's Seeker Shad.
As far as retrieve speed, I like to start off the first couple of hours at a medium pace, hoping to ascertain from any follows what "mood" the fish are in. Occasionaly I'll throw some variation into the retrieve, for instance, half way thru I'll rip it faster. Some casts I'll twitch/long pause until it's 15 feet from the boat, and then I'l crank hard and give an aggressive figure eight.
Basically no set rule for speed, except to keep it varied and learn what the fish are "feeling", just like any other time of year. I won't even concentrate on what the fish wants at first, rather I'll just choose to either go fast or slow. and then let the nature of hits or follows to dictate any changes.

| ok guys got the idea od some good baits but what speed do you guys like....fast?slow?
do you guys search for the warmest water during the spring months or do you guys fish cold areas too?someone told me that the place you have the best chance to hookup on a fish is the north end of the lake....is this true? |

Depends what lake??? There are very few "rules" in muskie fishing...
Bays on the north end of most lakes warm first so that is where that statement comes from. The lake I fish most in the spring ..well the south east side is the best..... |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | As for speed, i think most people will tend to slow down their presentations in spring. That being said, i think the majority of guys fish their lures too slow all the time, so what we think of as a "normal" speed is probably good in spring. They might be a little lethargic, but they're often hungry after spawning and can still swim 5X faster than you can possibly crank that bucktail, even if the water temp is only 50 degrees. |

| Jig/Creature casted long distance onto the shore and then dragged into the water. Any area with geese with youngins get special attention, seems the fish stalk those guys. Next, black/silver Raddogs moving fast from the shore out. Always work the warmest water first, shallow seems most active for me. |

| spring on st clair.. trolling smaller sizes at slower speeds. try small woodies, lokes, fingerlings. seems louder colors trigger big girls recovering from spawn. season here opens first saturday in june. |
