Ok guys after spending, the beginning part of this week in a hotel room I had some time to watch the videos. Considering Slamer’s surprising interviewing talent, I have an idea for you.

There are many of us who can’t or choose not to attend the shows, what would be VERY cool would be a quick 10 to 20 minute summary of the best part of the shows, highlighting what we are missing. Even for guys that can make it to one or two shows, we can’t all make it to all of them. This could even create more interest in the shows themselves.

Here is what I would like to see and what would get me to sit down and watch videos of Musky shows.

HOT BAITS – What are the new hot lures of the show season, what’s the buzz. Talk to manufactures and retailers.

POOL DEMOS – Get those new hot lures wet, and lets see what they look like. Also any new techniques with older stuff, get the experts to show what they are doing in the pool.

HOT BOATS – Lets see the new models that have the people at the shows talking. Show the hull, the trailer, but most importantly get some long shots of the deck. 90% of the time this is the most important issue for a musky fisherman. I still don’t know what the entire deck layout of the new X190 looks like, because I haven’t been anyplace where the boat is, and all the pictures are trying to show the low profile.

HOT PLACES – Talk to some resort owners on the HOT waters. What are bookings like, how far in advance do reservation need to be made. If it’s an area rep, what are good places to stay, cheep, moderate and highend. That kind of stuff.

HOT PEOPLE – No not the obvious here, though that wouldn’t be bad. But who’s hot in the industry right now, what are they doing that is making them hot, are they willing to talk about it. If their guides, my guess is they would give a short interview. Also talk to Doug J or Dick P about Operation Musky or any persons involved with up coming events.

I don’t know I personally think that type of info from every show would get lots of play time on the site. Maybe try to get the interviewees, to donate something for Muskiefirst give-aways. Maybe even offer if they buy an add, there add will have a direct link to their interview. That would be a good perk. But its most important to get all the HOT stuff, regardless of there status as site advertisers. It’s that info that will draw people to the site benefiting the current advertisers. Plus showing new people and product in a good light on the video page may just help make them advertisers.

Just some ideas, I am sure there are many more and many projects in the works.

yeah...errr...ummm...we should really do some of that...maybe at the Chicago Show or someplace like that?

click the "Video" tab in the black menu bar along the top of the page for access to the videos that have been uploaded to the OutdoorsFirst video site.

or do a search for "Video" in the Gen Disc and Tackle Equip forums...

It's a good idea but I think you would need to be carefull. What would be the long term incentive of the "shows" to allow this filming? Basicly you are taking the information people are paying to see at the shows and giving it away. In turn it will hurt the attendence of the shows. I understand what you are asking for, I just don't think it can happen.

IMHO the only reason people in Minnesota go to the shows is to get away from the weather! Oh, and also talk to old friends and meet with the guys making tackle in their basements. Oh, did I mention to get away from the wives?

OK you must have just made the easy to find tab, becasue I swear that when I looked at the video tab at the beginning of the week all that was not there. The two items, slamer with Rick and slammer with steve where, and the older stuff but not all the other stuff. I knew you guys had done pool demo stuff in the past but didn't find any Monday night.

And You're still not quite feeling me "DOG", I am saying one edited video from each show that shows the higlights.

One problem I am finding is that as the site grows it's harder to find the info I am seeking. I often don't have the time to search through everything. Not so much with the multi media stuff, though it's obviously a problem if all that stuff was there and I spent at least 2 hours on the site Monday night and couldn't find it.

A major headach I am finding not just with this site but others is, the moving of threads. I understand the need to break topics out, but I don't think they should be moved until they are off the front page. General discussions gets the most traffic and unless we have time we generaly don't sift through all topics.

Just my opinoin and should probably be in a different thread.

Thanks for the heads up.

yes and no. the site upgrade did just get rolled out this week, along with more video being added to the OutdoorsFirst Upload site.

I knew you guys had done pool demo stuff in the past but didn't find any Monday night.

we have a very effective dynamic search engine. it's waaaay underutilized by site guests so we try to promote it whenever we can...like now!

paging through the threads is incredibly inefficient. play around with the search function for awhile, i think you'll be pleasantly surprised how much this will help. all the posts i listed above were the result of ONE search for the term "video" within the last 6 months. the returns are clickable dynamic links, so you can go right to the thread to view it from the search result list.

A major headach I am finding not just with this site but others is, the moving of threads. I understand the need to break topics out, but I don't think they should be moved until they are off the front page.

this is a common mis-perception: that the General Disc forum is where everything starts until it gets old and then it gets moved somewhere else. this is simply not true. Gen Disc is for fishing talk that doesn't fit into a different, more specific forum. we don't think of it as the "front page" but rather we view all the forums as "front pages" for their specific topic.
we do our endeavor best to move topics to the forum that most accurately describes what they're about. so, if you're looking for something on rods and reels, look in the Tackle/Equip forum because that's where it will be. info on a boat is in the Boats/Motors forum.
the reason we do this is so that people don't have to look in multiple forums to find something specific. if we left those posts in Gen Disc until they moved off the first page, and then moved them, it would be confusing - "is that thread still in Gen Disc or is it in Tackle/Equip now?" if something gets posted in Gen Disc that we think belongs somewhere else, we move it as soon as we see it so that it's predictable for you on where to go and look.
our traffic is VERY high in the subject-specific forums as well, it's a bit of a fallacy that only Gen Disc threads get attention. this is especially true for the forums on Tackle/Equip and Boats/Motors, so people seem to know that's where to go and find the info they want.

thanks for you input and feedback.
the ability for site members to upload their video through the OutdoorsFirst Upload site should make the video library very impressive.

I agree and use it often, however I wasn't searching for anything specific, I was just browsing, the new uploads and formate should be much better. I was giving ideas for your new video forum, which should be a easy to use and easy to find. Sometimes we don't know what we are looking for until we see it. I guess what I am saying is I hope the good videos are somehow cataloged for easy use.

Again I agree in many cases, but if there are more people out there like me. There are many times I only stop by and look at the general disscussion board, it takes two long to search the many different forums. All one has to do is look at how fast views grow on the GD board compared to the Research board for example.

Again this is by far the best site out here, just offering opinions.

Duchboy The feedback we've received is that the video enhances the Show experience, mainly for those who can't attend. I don't think anyone would skip a show due to the video we shoot, it just isn't the same experience. The main reason people go is to talk with other like minded people, which video will never be able to replace. If anything I think the coverage helps to increase attendance, not the other way around.

Mike,

Great ideas that parallel plans we have in place launching the Video Upload site.
