What do you guys think the best chip is to buy for your GPS unit for lakes in Wisconsin and Minnesota, I plan to hit Mille Lacs, Vermillion, and also the Madison chain but I plan to buy a chip soon here. Please let me know what you guys use on the water and what you trust.

To get both states you need a Lakemaster chip for each or a Navionics that covers both. Not sure on detail between the 2 all I can use is Navionics and more than happy with it.

I have the Lakemaster chip and it is absolutely right on the money.  Haven't used Navonics before, because the Lakemaster is so good there was no reason to think about the competition.  Check them both out and decided which is going to work better for you.

I like the Navionics because it is easier to read. However they both have their advantages.

I seen some bad feedback on the Navionics on Cabelas web site, I want to make sure I get the best chip for the money. I have used a Navionics chip on Lake of the Woods before and it worked great, just wondering if the LakeMaster is even better?

Both are great chips. The Navionics chips are a little more detailed than the Lakemaster chips. If you do quite a bit of fishing in Minnesota and Wisconsin you might want to look at the Navionics. You are getting both states plus, North and South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan for $149.99. The lakemaster you buy each state seperately for $99.99. I have a Navioncis chip for my unit and I absolutely love it. No complaints!!

On the catch-n.com website there is a series of podcasts about lowrance gps/sonar units and in the first one they mention on the navionics chip when you are zoomed in all the way on the screen you are at 1/4 of a mile where as if you are zoomed in all the way on the Lakemster chip you are zoomed into 30 feet. And since they both have all the major lakes in 1 foot contours i will be going with the Lakemaster chip.

Here's a link to their podcats.

It's just a very informational series and alot of people can benefit from the info.

I have both and prefer the Navionics. Better value, much easier to read, and most of the lakes I fish are in igh detail, much the same as the lakemaster. That said, it all depends on the Lowrance unit you are using, regarding zoom. Be careful of when what you read was written, as updates are made on the units to allow improvements all the time. My LCX 25 and 111 both allow the Navionics to zoom to the capability of the unit, or the same as the Lakemaster chip. The smaller units(like the 332) only allow a 1/8 mile zoom on the Navionics. So, you'll need to compare the chip to your unit, and the software update inside. That said, I do like a Lakemaster chip for the handheld ifinder, as it will allow for a closer zoom. Other than for that, the lakemaster would stay home.
