| I looking for some opinions on reels to use for dcg's. I know you need something geared low. I currently have a calcutta which imo handles pretty nice. I'm just not sure how long it'll hold up though. I was thinking of getting something geared lower like an abu 7000 just for the big stuff.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! |

| Thanks guys. I was checking that reel out. The trouble is i use a southpaw and that silver one is only right handed. They make a 7001I... it's the red reel. Honestly I understand Abu is not the highest quality but more of a price point. I've burn out some c4's probably bc was using (or abusing) them for the wrong applications. |

Location: Madison, WI | So I use all Garcia's (C3s, Records) and havent thrown #10s alot last year. Had planned on doing much more of it this year however....what issues might I have to look forward to? I hadent heard of any problems with the regular sized reels and the #10s before this. |

| Is there a power handle that works with the lunas? I threw DCG's last year and for the most part thought it did a good job. When I fish current areas I would like to have a little more power though.

| Ran callcutta 400te,s all last season for d10s without a hitch and they did an admirable job but was looking for a better wheel so i tried a 700te as a dedicated d10 reel close to the end of the season and it was just awsome.My search is deffinetly over and will be running a700te for d10s from now on,way reduced the effort and fatigue.I thought at first the reel may be to heavy but the drag associated with the d10s completly offsets the felt weight makes
the balance and stability of the set up just awsome.I ran it on a st.croix TM86XH. |

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | There are two lines of thinking on selecting a reel for big blades.
1. I want to pull the friggin' bait in faster than anyone else on the lake. I believe doing so will get me more and bigger fish. I don't care if I need an ambulance at the end of the day from the strain on my body. I am buying a reel with a 6.1-6.3:1 gear ratio...burn baby burn! (These guys will be buying Dawia Saltist, or Shimano Trinidad or the less expensive Shimano Torium)
2. I want to be able to throw big blades all day and all night w/o too much discomfort. I want the reel to not break down from the strain created by the big blades. (See above mentioned reels)
Make sure you know what your objective is.

Location: Watertown, MN | The one the guides are raving about is the Trinidad, they were solid, and the pickup on reel is unreel. 46" a revolution, and they are a 6.2 ratio, but have the pulling power to make this job effortless. Brad Hoppe told me a story when he first tried them he pulled 2 10# downrigger balls across the floor, once started the real pulled them with ease. Toriums are a cheaper option, but the one piece frame is what makes the Trinidad the standout. Like Teck stated last nite remeber when Shimano came out with corsair, supposed to be the same.

The stock handle on the TE is money. If you want a little more power... go to the 700 w/ the power handle... or just eat some more ibuprofen, slam a red bull and reel faster. What is this thing you call "fatigue"?
