Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Need to put some rails on the back of my new Polar Kraft and was wondering if these would do the job... Have any of you used this product? Thanks for any and all info. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0013621015049a.shtml

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | mike ... i bought rails through ranger for my boat and those look exactly like what i've got. they look and work great on my boat and i'm sure they will for yours too. some "ranger-style" rails on that pc would help your image ... just spike your hair and get a visor to go with the rails and you're set!

Location: The Yahara Chain | Get the long ones. I bought a short one last year and it didn't work very well with two rod holders on it. Very easy to install, they are nice.

yah, i should have said that Mike...we can use 3 rods per person in Wisconny...so I had 2 short ones up front with one down easter...and the long ones in back with 2 down easters on each..the short ones are too short for 2 down easters... if you want 3 or more per side get 2 pairs of long ones... booyah. what ever happened to the girlfriend/wife of that one guy you know from Appleton that simply rocked Bette?

Posts: 5874 | If you have access to underneath the surface where you are going to mount them, I would go with the rail that Tuffy Boats uses. They bolt on from under, instead of screws from the top like those you posted about. Much stronger, and secure method. Give Tuffy a call at 800-359-4416 and ask for Steve. I'm sure they will give you the place to get them.

Posts: 3240 Location: Racine, Wi | Mike, you can go with the 60"ers and get 3 holders on them. I love those rails. That's what I put on mine. I have 3 down easters on each side. Should work fine for you.

Posts: 97 | Mike, I have these rails with 2 inch aluminum spacers below them. These spacers allow you to turn the down easterns to any angle you prefer. Without a 2 inch spacer, you will hit the boat with the bottom of the rod holder. Todd

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Mike - If the primary purpose is for rod holders I would suggest tracks instead of rails. The nice thing about the tracks is that when you don't want the rod holders there you stow them in a compartment. Grab rails with rod holders attached might also cause problems with how your boat cover fits.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I am going to be putting the plastic rail mount bases on it, then using the clamp on Down Easters. So I will be able to take off the Down Easters very easily and quickly. These are mostly used for sucker rods as I usually troll for about 9 minutes per season!! LOL

I am going to be putting the plastic rail mount bases on it, then using the clamp on Down Easters. So I will be able to take off the Down Easters very easily and quickly. These are mostly used for sucker rods as I usually troll for about 9 minutes per season!! LOL using clamp-ons with rails will be fine for suckers like you plan to do, but aren't very good for trolling. when trolling any hard-pulling baits, the clamps don't hold tight enough on the round rail and the rod holder can easily rotate, even with rubber inserts, etc., especially when it's cold in the fall. for trolling i'd suggest the rail-mounts. the rails are nice to have even when not using the rod holders, they really help getting in and out of the boat, and make a good hand-hold for back-seat passengers when running across the lake. i've found the style used on my Tuffy now to be very secure (bolt through) whereas on my previous Ranger i had to remount the rails due to the screws pulling out of the gunnel; this might be less of an issue with an aluminum boat, and you could see if it's possible to substitute bolts instead of the supplied screws to add extra stability.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I am not putting the clamp on's on the rail...I am clamping them on plastic "rail mount" holders... If you've ever seen Saric's boat, that is what he does. It works for him so I thought I would give it a try.

Posts: 97 | Mike, you don't need the spacers for sucker fishing. If you want the rod at a 45 degree angle down, you'll be fine. I'm off today, call me if you need--- I have 11 downeasterns on my boat. 630-244-0358 Todd
