They have a longer 'radius', right? Requires less pressure to turn the handle...but...you need to turn the actual handle FASTER round and round in order to maintain the same speed as a handle with a smaller radius....
Seems like if speed is what you're going for, a longer handle is not necessarily the answer. If EASE is what you're after, then the longer handle would be helpful.

I'd like to try one out on my gander 66s...anyone know of a handle that will fit it? Basically a pflueger reel.

Location: Yahara River Chain | Yes, but if its a hard pull bait like a DC10 you need the ease to keep doing it hour after hour. If its a Mepps then your small radius crank will burn that bucktail faster. Everyone is going with the huge hard pulling baits, therefore you are hearing about the huge crank handles.

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | That's 'bout what I thought, but I've put in 14 hours of doub 10s with standard handle...I'd just as soon suffer the strain than compromise speed....
...I'd really like to see what reel is going to come to the forefront as a 6:1 ratio and built to handle the drag of doub 10s...a company comes out with a reel like that with an oversized handle and that product is going to SELL! |

| I haven't seen any of the "power handles" that really have any great radius other than a fraction of an inch maybe. The advantage that I see in them is that they have a larger handle that puts less stress on your fingers. |

I put a double paddle handle from a Calcutta on my GS 66. I'm assuming that since it fit, the power handle would fit also. I don't remember if it makes a difference if it is from a Calcutta or a Calcutta TE. All I know is the double paddles I got were pretty big for double paddles. Pretty sure I got mine from Thornes.
Seems like there are threads in the archives about putting the TE handles on the Pflueger/Gander reels.

Penn 975s have 4.3:1 ratio....not a High Speed reel... |

Location: Chicago | I'm using a handle off of a Bass Pro Oceanmaster (OM4000) on my Gander 66's, it works nice and it has 2 mounting holes for different leverage. Contact; Outdoor World Rod & Repair (1-417-873-5274) sorry don't remember the cost on the handle, hope this helps. hammy |
