Subject: Crestliner

I have been looking at a 2005 Crestliner 1750, the boat has a 2005 75 Merc 4 stroke, I am trying to figure out how the boat run with this motor. My first thought is under powered and wanted to see if anyone had additonal thoughts.

The boat would have a 9.9 kicker, 24v trolling motor, normally fish 2 guys. Just trying to get and idea of top speed. I have heard alot of different answers anywhere from 30-45 I was thinking 35 tops.

Any help is appreciated.

Brian-
I have a 1750 Sportfish with a 90hsp 2 stroke. 39 is the top end. I am underpowered but I bought the rig used and for a very good price so I'm willing to live with it for now. It fishes great and I can pull the kids without a problem.

GOod luck...Labs

75 is really under-powered, My buddy ran a 115 with his and I think that is max but not sure. Boat fished great though.

there is absolutely nothing worse than owning an underpowered boat ... when you own it you hate it and wish for something else and when you are trying to get rid of it it's almost impossible. a 75 4-stroke on a 1750 ... you'd be saving the guy from his misery to jump into your own ...

If that's the tiller you're looking at then you might be OK. If it's the console rated at (2008 specs) 125 max HP then that's WAYYY underpowered. Adding the 9.9 4-stroke plus the extra battery and all your gear will knock your top speed down a few MPHs. I really don't know about how fast the boat will go, but if I had to guess I'd say lower 30s, MAYBE 35 tops, when you add the 9.9.

I've got a buddy that fishes out of a 1750 tiller and that is a SWEET rig for the small to medium sized waters we fish here in IL. Good luck with your decision!

I have a 1750 with a 90 Johnson 4 stroke and get 38 mph. I would think that with a 75 you are looking at low 30's. I am happy with my performance, but I also knew exactly what I was getting when I bought it. If you buy it you are going to have to realize that you are not going to only to be able to expect so much out of it.

As a side note the boat fishes great. I have added a port console and have had it out on pretty big water with no problems.

I have a 2005 1750 with a 115HP Merc and a 9.9 Merc 4-stroke kicker. I run a 17 pitch stainless prop and get 38mph flat-out when the water is a sheet of glass.

I have experimented with props ranging from 20 pitch down to 16, and found that the 17 pitch puts the boat on plane quickly, provides a smooth ride with easy handling, and keeps those rpms above 5000 (very important) when I am running at higher speeds.

I ran the boat for over a year with a 19pitch prop (the dealer's original selection) until my mechanic informed me that unless the engine is spiking at high speeds over that 5,000 rpm mark ... I could have engine problems in the future. Mercury's SmartCraft internal system keeps track of how many hours on your engine, how many hours at what speeds, and rpms at what speeds. My rpms were not going over the 5,000 mark at high speeds when I ran the dealer's 19 pitch prop.

My manual tells me that the best gas mileage out of the 115 comes at 22mph, so unless I am really beatin-feet, that's my cruising speed.

Tough boat to handle with the trolling motor on a really windy day, but all in all I am very pleased with the Crestliner.

The boss has that hull with a 115 on the rear, no kicker. Nice ride. scary fast? No.
Fast enough? oh yeah. 24 volts drags his front end around like your mom took you by the ear when you were little.

Good luck on your new best friend!

I also have a Crestliner 1750 with a 90hp 2-stroke....with my boat, fully loaded full of a lot of gear and one other adult in the boat....max I see is about 34-35mph and that's going by the GPS speed. I believe that's with an aluminum 17 pitch prop as well.

I'm not out there to be the fastest on the water. There's no need to be. Plus...with gas prices today....no need to really be flat out flying. Plus..the waters I predominately fish....they're smaller waters...so...no need for a bigger/faster motor.

I think my boat's motor is matched pretty good. If gas were $.87 cents a gallon again....sure...I'd want a bigger boat and a bigger motor. But....I'm cool with what I have. It gets me where I need to go...reliably...

I just wish it were a 4-stroke so it'd be quieter and cleaner...but....I'll take what I have...I'm happy with it.

My guess would be that top speed would be in the lower thirties. I've got a 1650 Fishhawk with a 90 E-Tec that has an unbelievable hole shot and gets into the upper 30s. That 75 is definitely underpowered for that boat. I'm a firm believer in maxing out your horsepower if you can afford the motor.

Brian, Love my 2006 Fishhawk w/115Merc four-stroke. She's on the market. I sure hate to lose her but the downturn in my work has me in a pinch. 1-815-735-3863.
