Does anybody know alot about these reels, just thinking of buying one. I have not read alot about these reels, just wanting to know if they as good as the lunas and the calcuttas. Just dont want to buy another reel that wont last a season!! thanks

The St Croix reels are made by DAIWA, it is the same reel as the DAIWA LUNA. The 300 St Croix is a great all around reel for Musky fishing. I don't think Daiwa has a nice power handle for the reel but the Shimano Trinidad TN12 balanced power handle will fit on the 300 Daiwa or the 300 St Croix reel. The Calcutta 400 TE will cost you $110.00 more, and the Luna - St Croix is almost as good as the TE.

I have both reels, and like them both. However, I prefer the Calcutta's power. For a great review of both reels, go to:

Just got a Calcutta TE 400 and the power handle is on the way. Ripped into it and this things looks like a monster. I have been using Abu reels. Good reels so far but like many I am looking for a little more power for some of those double 13s about to hit the market. If you have the cash I would look at the TE. Good cleaning/service program with Shimano too.

I have 2 of the 300's and they are the best reels i've ever used. I've had them for 2 years and beaten the heck out of them and they never miss a beat. Excellent drag, smooth and they cast a mile. I just sent my 2 into St. Croix for a cleaning/tuneup. They also released a power handle conversion kit. I should be getting that in the mail today. Won't be able to mount it on the reel till i get them back from cleaning. As long as they make them this is the only reel i will use. And it's $100 cheaper than the Calcutta.
