I generally have been running my own floro leaders on all my baits and rods. I run multiple rods in the bow and am thinking of running my jerk set up with a solid-wire leader so I can throw mantas, etc, w/o fouling on the leader....

How many of you are doing this...running floro on your bucktail rod and solid wire on your jerk...

My jerk rod would be used to throw:
dawgs, gliders, burts, jakes, reefs, etc...

Thoughts?

Do it. You will get more action and less fouling on your jerkbait rod using single strand (174# is good). I occasionally still use fluoro (150# Seaguar Premier) but I'm becoming more exclusive to single strand (lighter for bucks and cranks, 124#) due to bite-off's experienced by my friends. Muskies can't ever cut wire...EVER, and muskies do not care about the invisibility of a leader. I would also suggest that in most conditions, fluoro is as visible as a bronzed single-strand leader.

I make my own......it's REALLY cheap and really, really easy and once you get the haywire twist down--it's easy--you're all set. I use American Fishing Wire 124# and 174# single strand "camo brown". I'll post a simple "how to" in the next week as to how I do it.

BTW, I also use shrinkwrap to reduce the collection of weeks, specifically, the slimy crap that you have to painstakingly pick off.....it makes a difference.

I do this on my home waters in IL, not in Canada (strictly single-strand). I run 130 pound Stealth on my crankbait and bucktail/spinnerbait rods and 174 pound single-strand on my dawg/Sue/glider/Suick rods.
