I have never owned any type of video camera, and with a 16 month old daughter and a passion for muskie fishing, I think it is time to capture a few snipets from life. I do not plan on releasing any DVD's any time soon, just want something good for home movies and capturing a pig or two during the season.
I am looking for suggestions on a good camera that won't break the bank... I would like something that is user freindly and that won't be outdated technology tomorrow. What camera or even what memory format do you guys recommend?
As for video editing; do you actually do this on the camera or with software or both? Does the camera come with editing software?

I'd get a mini DV for what you describe, or perhaps one of the new units that record to an SD card. Here's a snippet I shot with the SD card unit at 4:30 this afternoon, which was about $80 at Shopko.
I have two JVC Mini DV Cameras that are 'consumer' models. Nice video and audio, much more involved to transfer to the computer and edit than the clips than the DXG 572, but superior video quality.
I also have a Panasonic Prosumer unit that is a shoulder mount; beautiful quality video and audio, but definitely more than you'd want to spend and more camera than you need.

I would just go to your local best buy/circuit city type places. I got a nice little digital camcorder a couple years ago and it would be perfect for what you describe (only cost 100-200). The editing is done on the computer, but most computers will have the software for it (iMovie or windows movie maker). Its just like a digital camera where you hook it up to the computer and a program will come up where you can upload the movies. From there its not too difficult to feel around and edit the video pretty well. I've made some nice little home videos that are definitely fun to watch later on.

I got the camera for the 'Just Big Muskies dvd" guys,,you should contact them if you like the quality in the latest volume 4 I think it was pretty vivid,they can tell you which model it was I dont remember
I'll tell you what our service techs tell us,,,'Always" buy the extended service?warrenty plan,,no matter what brand or whereever you purchase it from
