Subject: weighted gliders

I am in the process of making some glide baits that are about 8" long and made of maple just wondering if someone could help me with the question of where to place the weights and how much.

Try drilling two holes attached to each other about an inch in from each end of the bait. Drill each hole just about as deep as the center line of the bait or a tad deeper. Melt in your lead then tank test how it sinks. You want a glider to sink slowly while remaining horizontal. If it's too heavy at one end drill out the lead a little and try again until it's just right.
I do this with every single lure I build.

Thanks for the information, I made some up this weekend and added the lead
just ahead of the middle of the body will this work. They just sink with all the harware on them except for the cups for the hooks after I paint them and coat them will they still sink. With your expertise do you think I am headed in the right direction on these.

It's possible to weight them just at the balance point of the bait but personally I prefer weighting at both ends the way I described. It also depends on if you want a more erratic action or a more predictable side to side glide.
I don't want my baits to zig when I wanted them to zag.
