I've trolled with my 150 opti for 2 yrs. This year it acted up one time while trolling.I think if your going to troll, than you should take it out and run it wide open after each outing. Also, use Quickclean and a fuel stabilizer every tank. Last but not least, start saving for a kicker, that way you won't have to put alot of hrs. on the big motor.

I have trolled with my 115 Opti a little bit. It will work fine for you I would think. Not sure about the long term implications for motor life & maintenance issues if you plan to troll a lot. If I remember correctly I can get down to about 2.3 mph when trolling with mine.

I have a 115 on my tracker and troll all the time. One thing that I do to get the rpm's up is I tie 2, 5 gallon buckets to the back, one off of each cleat and real close to the boat. This helps the motor keep a consistant speed and keeps the motor from sputtering. I can run as low as 2.8-2.9 with this set up. I also when done trolling give it a good run down the lake wide open before hitting the ramp.

I have trolled with my Opti 115. You can get down to 2.5 or 3 miles per hour nicely ... but wear a gas mask. The fumes made the experience very uncomfortable for me.

The engine runs like a charm when used for anything other than trolling. Never a problem. Should be lots of kickers (used) out there right about now. I assume you could get one for just a few hundred dollars. If it runs for a season or two ... maybe that's worth it.
