Posts: 31 Location: saint paul, mn | I got a rod for chrostmas this year, it is a shimano calcutta 8' H. It seems ike a great rod, but I have not read or heard anything about it. Just wondering if anyone is using this rod, and what they think about it. Because for the price it better be a #*^@ good stick. It was a lil over $250, and for that price I could have a custom rod made. Any and all feedback is much appreciated. If you dont like the rod, I would like to know. Thanks, Nate Also, how does it handle double 10's and the like? Merry Christmas to all! Edited by jerkmybait 12/25/2007 3:38 PM

Posts: 2089 | Nate, Rest assured, that is one awesome stick. Made with the TC4 , it's nearly indestructible. That rod will handle all the heavy stuff and is a great rod for DC's. I know many who throw this rod and I've never heard one complaint. Is it June yet??? Steve

Posts: 31 Location: saint paul, mn | so you would stick with this rod instead of having a custom built? I jus read the thread about having custom's made, and it sounds very appealing. I actually have one custom rod, but it is an off the rack one. The thought of having complete control over what your rod to be sounds kinda fun too. Thanks, Nate It's still December out my window Edited by jerkmybait 12/27/2007 11:52 AM

Posts: 325 Location: In the slop! | Nate, talk to Pat at Thorne Brothers. The Calcutta blank is a very good one. I have one of the inshore rods, love it. I do wish the foregrip was bigger though. I believe Thorne's has some of these blanks or some very similar they can build a custom on. Later this year I'm going to get serious about having a custom made on one of these. Like Jonesi said, the tc4 construction is extremely tough.

i've got that exact rod (Calcutta Inshore Heavy Extra Fast CLC X80H). whoever bought it for you has good taste and knows their stuff! i use mine as my primary XX bucktail stick, paired with a big low-ratio reel. casts the big bucktails well and plenty quick in the figure-8 at boatside. for comparison, i also have a number of Pro Edge custom rods that i absolutely love. you can't go wrong with a custom rod made to your specs, but if i were to buy another rod off the shelf, it'd be a Shimano Calcutta.

Posts: 31 Location: saint paul, mn | Nice, it is good to have some great feedback about the rod. I figured it was a good rod, but having heard nothing about them before, figured I better get some input from some great musky minds. Thanks for all the help, Nate
