Mine was during the Boom Lake Tourney, the one in June. Back then, the tourney ran from 6 a.m. to 7p.m Friday, Saturday, and until noon on Sunday. I couldn't get off work on Friday for love or money, so my dad and son decided to fish until 4:30 without me and then meet me at the landing so I could get a couple of hours in. As they picked me up and I jumped in behind the tiller Tuffy, they told me that they had only two follows all day. As we motored off, I was trying to think of a spot that hadn't been pounded to death, and then thought of a spot that usually was choked with weeds, but this year they were scattered. We got there and I selected a buzz bait and threw it out. About half way to the boat, the overtaking wake appeared and I yelled"Look." All I heard was "No! It can't be, this isn't happening." Happening or not, I told my son to get the net, and we landed a fat 35 incher, which was big enough to get me on the board. My dad shook his head and said, " Krumps ol'hemlock"(Dads way of swearing) we fish all day and get nothing, and you make one cast and you're on the board!" All I could do is smile and thank Lady Luck for showing up.

Posts: 382 | My one and only first cast muskie came during the Rush Lake Challunge put on by the North Metro Chapter roughly 3 years ago. Partner and I had been boozing very heavily the night before and it was a rough morning. We got the boat in the water and I headed to the dock to pick up my partner who was chumming off the dock. After we "got our minds right" we headed to the first spot. I snapped on a crappie phantom, threw it toward the rock marker and bang, a 42" hit boatside and we actaully got it in the net! Never saw another fish all day but did take 2nd in the tourney!

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | This past summer...stopped at a bait shop below a dam to visit with the owner and a couple locals who visit. We were having a few beers and as night came on, I decided to grab a rod and make a few casts from shore. First cast I land a 26" Walleye. Biggest one I've caught. I was casting for musky with a 7" soft plastic swim bait. Fun stuff!!

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | How's about my first two casts? Pewaukee, 2 seasons ago. I can't find the pic of both of them together, but they were a 40 and a 34". Both on a Cobb's Round Nose Countdown. Edited by Gander Mt Guide 12/21/2007 2:54 PM

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Took a buddy from Point out that has really struggled catching muskies in the past few seasons, so I said I'd show him around. Got to my spot and told him this is how I've been working the bait.....POW! Fish drills it in front of us....made me look like I knew what I was doing!! HAHA! Was pretty cool!

Years ago, I made a 7+ hour drive to fish Hazel Creek in NE Missouri. We'd never fished the lake before and our anticipation was high. We dropped the boat in and, being a trolling motor only lake, I took my first cast at a little point next to the boat ramp with a Bagley DB06. Fish follows in and eats in the '8'. We CPR'd her; a nice 36"er. Of course, the only musky of the trip. On a MN metro trip, I took two newbies attorney friends out with me for their first ever musky trip. Pulling up to a little bar, I pulled out a baitcaster with a little homemade bucktail on the end and began to explain to them how to use the reel. Making a little half demo cast a 40" eats the bait in front of them, which we CPR'd. It took some time to explain to them how musky fishing was not that easy. Brian

Posts: 313 Location: On your favorite spot | Brian - seen more than one fish come off that point at Hazel..... C'mon now, it's musky fishing. Anything in the first 10 casts or so should count! My buddy pulls up to the dock to pick me up - "Notice all the empty room in the boat? I forgot the net tonight." "We probably won't need it anyway." 5 casts later, you guessed it. 42 inches of pi$$ed off, barely beak hooked fish to hand land. We got 'er done though. Never did stop flopping till she hit the water again. They sure crap alot when you bring them in the boat right away! Bump, photo, and released in less than a minute, swam off strong, just like we like it. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 20258 Location: oswego, il | This one hit a sucker that went 5ft from the boat. On the water two minutes, not even a casting rod out on the deck, let alone the trolling motor in the water. We were not even set up on the spot yet either. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 20258 Location: oswego, il | This one might not be the exact fish, I have it narrowed down to two pics. About a year later from the above pic, same circumstances only we are in 3ft of water and I just laid the sucker next to the outboard with 3ft of like hanging from the rod. Had not casted yet, or set up anything. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 189 Location: Hoboken, NJ / North Webster, IN | 2 sucker sucker stories....both fish not boated 1-Have a buddy in town that's never muskie sucker fished before, we show him the way to get over the fish, set a sucker, etc... and tell him the next one that goes off is his..... I rig the sucker, drop it in the water and I'm pulling some line out...as I make my way to the back of the boat to put the rod in the rod holder.....I look down and see a mid 40's swimming under the back corner of the boat with my sucker t-boned in it's mouth....so I quickly say "Sorry brother, you get the next one" as I set the hook and fight the fish. 2-Rig a sucker, put it in the water off the back of the boat. Rigging the bobber and have the sucker dangling just in the water and a muskie comes up and takes a swipe at it....about 24" from my nose, a foot from my hand....it bangs it's head on the motor and swims off with me shaking.

Posts: 8 | Pull up to a reed patch early in the morning. No sun, a little foggy, mirror flat water. Make a long first cast with an Eddie bait to an opening in the reeds and simultaneous to the lure hitting the water - musky on. Only a 37 incher, but couldn't believe how quickly the fish hit. Couldn't differentiate the water spray between the splashdown and the strike.

Posts: 574 | A buddy talked me into going out for sunset one night. I didnt think it was worth fishing for an hour, but what do I know...... I spend 5-10 minutes rigging the sucker,, chuck my big joe out, probly only sank 5 seconds and on the second or third hop SMACK. Also last year my buddy fires a topwater back at the dock we just launched from........BOOM 35 incher. I hadn't even picked up a rod yet. Attachments ---------------- ![]()
