Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | There was a post a while back asking about the relative success of your year. I believe that I responded that it was better than ever  . It did get me thinking about how good it really was so I poured through my logs and came up with some numbers to support or refute my claims. I managed to make it out 55 times this year; sounds like a lot, I know, but I only live 8 miles from the reservoir and I often make trips for a couple hours prior to work, etc. My average trip length was just under 4 hours. Many of those trips were alone or with one or both of my boys. Those 55 trips saw 68 tigers hooked by myself and my boat partners hit the net. Sizes ranged from 24" - 51.25". The breakdown of sizes reads as follows: <30" - 47 30-34.5" - 11 35-39.5" - 5 40-49.5" - 4 50+" - 1 My 3 biggest days on the water were 14 and 10 fish (with partners) and 7 (alone). My 3 biggest producing lures were: J-13 Rapala in Brown trout (18 fish), Baby Wabull in perch (13 fish - but about 20 additional follows), and a 6" Believer in copper sucker (7 fish). The J-13 fish were caught both trolling and casting, so it might be reasonable to figure it would get the most fish, the Wabull fish were all casting and the Believer fish were all trolling. Five or more fish were caught on each of Baby Depth Raider and a Cisco Kid Wrangler. So barring the unusually high number of sub-30 inch fish and the one big girl, my year was in fact, incredibly average...an average year I'd happily take pretty much every time. Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | Beginner, I think they're a fine lure. They function as a slightly up-sized version of the J-13 Rapala that works so well out here. They fish very similar to a jointed Baby Depth raider; but they seem to dive a bit deeper yet are slightly more buoyant (at least the specimens that I own). If you fish with heavy line and leader and have the drag locked down, you'll straighten the hooks, but I don't fish that way, so they work fine. Their bodies are durable (plastic), but the paint tends to get a lot of tooth scratches in it... S. I wouldn't mind having a couple more. | ||
