Subject: Rod + suitable reel ?

Hi there!
I am new to Muskie fishing and trying to choose a rod and reel. For the moment, I am wondering whether St. Croix Premier Muskie Casting Rod - 7' (2-6 oz) and Abu Garcia Classic "Red" Ambassadeur® 5600CB fit together? I will use the rod mainly for jerk bites and gliders. Do you think whether the 5600 reel size is suitable or I should get the larger 6600CB reel? Is there any marked difference between "Red Ambassadeur" and "C3"?

What other reel models would you recommend to me for around 100$?

Thank you for your advice!

I think you're ok with that rod, the 5600 when spooled with nothing less than 65-80lbs braid would empty your spool in a hurry especially launching 6 oz glide baits. I would suggest a quality reel with the spool size of the 6500 - 6600. I started with the abu's and they were adequate for my applications, but after purchasing the Calcutta 401 TE I never looked at anything else since. If you can find a used Abu Morrum in the 6600 series on ebay, don't pass it up.

Hope this helps.
