For those that troll St Clair on the Ontario side the MNR has removed the one rod rule.

I'm surprised they didn't change their mind on this stupid rule after the VHS die off. Like catching 10 fish a day isn't enough. This is a sad case of lets join 'em instead of beating them. Sure isn't going to help protect the fishery that's for sure, I hope they still have fish 10 years down the road.

P.S. For those not in the know the majority of anglers on St-Clair troll 2 lures per rod so this will allow each angler to be fishing with 4 lures or 12 if three guys in a boat.

For those not in the know... All this rule really does is make what has been going on forever legal. Many boats out there run illegal rods/lines, the one rod rule has basically been mocked. How about a charter boat that has a mate and captain with two clients on board? They were going to run four rods even though the clients are going to catch the fish. How about the 24-32' boat with eight people on board? There's hundreds of those out there, and yet the fishery still remains world class.

My guess is that you'll see very little difference in the catch rates in the upcoming seasons when compared to past seasons.

The Fish Sancuary for Lake Erie should be from the Peace Bridge to Point Abino from June 1st to July 15th for Muskies, will have to work on that one over the winter with Muskies Canada,Niagara Musky Assoc. Inc.,DEC,Ontario MNR,ETC..
With the VHS present and numbers of big fish down, spawning period needs to be protected. In fact the Buffalo Harbor should not open in NY Waters till July 15th as well! Anyone else have any thaughts on this?

the majority do not troll 2 lures on 1 rood richard. . the fishery can and will support the new laws. whats needed is fish handling courses for some folks though.. hopefully thru the winter months these clubs can show videos, on good releases.

But I thought the mishandling was due to running too many rods? Isn't this new rule make it more of a problem with everyone running extra rods now not only the poachers? Can't possibly bring in all those lures to reel in fish, if people wanted to make a difference pushing for a 2 rod rule does the opposite. It will just have more people mishandling fish.

Only time will tell, I still don't know where all those fish come from, that fishery is the most abused of anywhere already and still produces outrageous numbers. I know first hand having only spent 4 days on that water and seen floaters each day and the thousands of days I have spent elsewhere I've seen 2.

Only time will tell but if the fishery declines fast it's already too late.
