Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | I'm in the market for used boats. I've been considering tuffy 1760s, 1890s and ranger 692s, 619s and 620s I've looking at the merits of each in trying to decide what the right boat is for me. I have heard that fuel tank placement in Ranger 619s affected the ride and certain years were rough riders. Is that true? Can anyone out here tell me what I should look for and look out for with regard to this issue or 619s/620s in general? As always thanks for the help. Jono

Posts: 144 | I used to have a 619. Mine was a 2005, before they redesigned the hull in 2007. It was a rougher riding boat than I expected it to be. I have heard that the 620s of that period were softer riding but in my opinion the diference was marginal. The boat was fast, dry,and fun to drive, but it would pound you pretty hard in rough conditions. I switched to 621 that has a different more streamlined hull design and the ride is excellent. I would guess that the newer design 619s and 620s will be a great improvment as well. My old 619 was a great boat to fish from however. Edited by pete619 11/12/2007 6:35 PM

Posts: 5874 | The new 06 620, and 07 619 is a better ride than the earlier models. But, they both will take water over the bow when you are sitting in 1 1/2 footers. If you are casting from the front deck in waves bigger than that, you will need waterproof footware. I don't know if they moved the fuel tank on the 619, but the 620's were moved rearward starting in 2000, I believe.

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Jono The 619 upto the 06 model ride like a lumber wagon from my experience, my friend runs the 619 and when he borrowed my 620 for a week, he could not believe the difference in the ride in big water, and having been in boat in big water she does not run. I would look at the 07 or newer 619 or any 620. The new 619 is equivalant to the older 620's. Shep, it takes more the 1 1/2' to go over the front on the 620, was out last weekend in 2-3' and front deck never got wet beside the net. Jono tanks were moved in 02 I believe, maybe 01. Posts: 5874 | How far apart were the waves? Maybe that has something to do with it? First time in a 06 620, on Bago, and they were coming over the bow. We were just sitting there, waiting for the ease out. No more than 1 1/2-2 footers. A couple times, there was 6" between the consoles.

Posts: 479 Location: Eden Prairie & Pine Island | I have a 2001 619 with a 200 horse and no kicker. It has a main tank (35 gal.) and an auxiliary (5 gal). Its fast and very fuel efficient. I don't think it rides badly either. Of course, a bigger boat will take bigger waves better and should ride better, too, but it s all relative. Bigger boats also need bigger engines which take more gas or you lose your speed, etc. Prop selection will also make a big difference. I am very happy with mine. By the way, it takes about a 2.5 to 3 footer to come over the bow on mine.

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Gary I believe you have the older 619 with the tank forward which I have heard is a much better ride than the 2002 or 03 to 06, when they moved the tank back, cause people who did not know how to drive the boat were spearing wave cause the did not know how to trim the boat out when running. Shep if the wave were only 6" apart the bow should not even drop to allow waves to come over, unless you had a bunch of weight in front storage. They problem seems to exist when the waves are spaced out enough for the bow to start pointing down as I am coming down a wave and next wave hit the front, and it usaully 3-4 footers Troyz

Posts: 5874 | 6" of water running between the consoles. Not 6" between waves. Whatever, I know what my partner and I experienced, and the conditions we were in.

originally you said 1 1/2 footers, now they are 2, they probably were 3. no way is a 1 1/2 footer coming over the bow on a 620, get real.

Posts: 1460 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Interesting discussion---I'm running an 05 619 that I purchased brand new. From what I've read, it sounds like there was a hull redesign on the 19 since then. I gather from the comments here that the redesign has made for a smoother ride, but a wetter one. I have been on big water--LOTW---VERM---ETC....and have fished through conditions that sent others in my party back to camp. My nerves were frayed, but my feet stayed dry along with the rest of the interior of my boat.
