Kind of a weird question but I find myself doing this again and again. Do you?
"nothing moving today leaving in a half hour, last cast".....five cast later "ok really the last cast".........picked up wind sock and brought one sucker in....."this drift is working right down the break"...leave one sucker out and cast a twin tail for another 600 yds...."Jesus Pete my wife and kid are going to be upset with me"...put away casting rod....deep break by boat landing.."Just going to drop a suck for 15 min and see if anyone is home"....I can visualize a fat pig ready to eat my bait as I pump out another chip to the dealer.
I know muskie fishermen are an extremely diverse group but I think we all have a lot of gambler in us. If I get another fatty this season I'm afraid for my family’s welfare. The last time that happened I was in the garage chipping away at wood making baits and investing in wood sanders. Maybe it’s this web site and viewing all these huge fall fish or the fall foliage that awakes the innate hunter in us.
Just thinking out loud here (Jeez I think I just entered into muskie geek twilight zone).
Ok that’s the last Oktoberfest for tonight…..well one more might do the trick.
Nail a fall pig!

Your first line is exactly why I named my business "Last Cast Guide Service". Started out as a family joke and "last cast' ended up meaning "we really have to quit in 15 minutes".

I too have the last cast problem. Once, my "last cast" on LVD lasted two hours. My then girlfriend was irritated so I said I had motor issues. She simply said "no you didn't". I knew then that she would be my wife.

I have exactly the same problem. I turn promised half days of fishing into full days on the water all the time!

Thats the reason I never give the wife a set time anymore, caused to many arguments. I'd tell her I'd be home at noon so I wouldn't have to listen to any fussen and ruin a good trip before hand. Wouldn't make it home till 4 or 5 pm and the crap would hit the fan. Now when she asks I just tell her it depends if they are biting or not. Don't set times no more, less stressful.
