| If I was to add a trolling plate to my 2002 2 stroke 90 hp Mercury to troll at slower speeds what would you suggest? |

Cabelas and BPS both sell commercially available trolling plates, did you have a particluar one in mind? m |

| Just looking to see if I should steer away from any certain models or if there is a model out there that is really easy to install and still effective |

My brother had to drill a 3" hole in the middle of the plate for the motor exhaust to get out to keep his motor from overheating. |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I would also suggest getting a drift sock rather than going with a trolling plate. The trolling plates work well enough, but if you have to go in reverse, you have no power, nor will it steer well. With a drift sock, you can slow yourself down whether you are forward trolling or back trolling, and if you need to make a quick correction by changing gear the boat will respond quickly.
