| I had a 8'6" custom rod built for me last year from a St. Croix Avid Blank. This past weekend the rod snapped in half. This rod had been handled with care and I do not believe I am at fault for the rod breaking.. Anyhow, I have tried to contact the person who built the rod, and he returned one email, when I told him the story and asked what we should do, he will not contact me.. I am not sure if this guy still builds rods and it appears he is avoiding me. Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought of contacting St. Croix to find out if they would take the rod under warranty and possibly send me a new blank and I could have someone else finish the blank off for me.. Suggestions?? Another dumb question... Can a rod that is snapped in half be fixed??? |

| Give me a call. I'll try to get you pointed in the right direction. I'm not sure of the warranty on the blank, but St Croix should replace it for the shipping charges. If you need someone to re-build, I can help you out. If you would like references, I can supply you a few.

| St Croix should replace the blank if it was custom built. I have never had this issue but I was told the blank would have the same warranty as the manufactored stick.
St Croix is a good company to work with.

Location: Minnesota | St. Croix will replace the blank, you need to send $10 for shipping and handling. They give you 30% off a purchase of a st.croix handle kit, and send your old rod back, so you can remove the guides from it, for your new rod.

| BEfore anybody says St. Croix will replace the blank they need to know mor info on how the rod broke. If you used the rod for a year and it broke it would be odd that it was a defect of the blank. Is the break a real sharp, clean break or is it kind of splintered? Is it broke where a guide is wrapped on or in between guides?
Your story says a lot about your "custom rod builder". All the claims and warrantys mean squat if it's some little guy who either goes out of business or decides not to back his warranty. I am not implying that this is the case with all rod assemablers but I see it enough that I would be real cautious before contracting for a "custom" rod. |
