Subject: Bucktails

I've decided to save a little money and start making my own bucktails. After tying 4 up I took them to the lake. I got a 2 follows on them even though the whole bucktail was spinning. Anyone know how to stop this from happening? It seemed like the hair was not puffing out as much as professionally tied bucks, i concluded that was because the whole thing was spinning around the wire shaft. Any suggestions would be would help.
Thanks,

I haven't been doing this very long myself, but are your clevises not pushed together by your beads? If the clevises don't have "wiggle room" they may in essence be attached to the shaft which might cause the whole thing to spin. If you're using bucktail hair and want more puff remember to pull hard when wrapping to get the hair to stick up more thus pulsate better through the water. The more the material lays down the less pulsating you'll get. But I do agree that if the whole thing spins you may be losing action from the material that way. Good luck!

Make sure your clevis holes are also loose on the wire body. I try to keep about a 1cm gap also between teh beads.

That is..... between the beads, clevis and the top loop. Gives enough room for "play" and proper spin in the rigging of the bucktail.
