I have been having an incredible week. I wanted to send out a big thank you for the muskie clubs, DNR etc who are responsible for stocking these incredible fish and setting size limits that let them grow. Anyone else want to give credit to all the individuals and clubs that make this hobby great!!!! BG

ahh....I didn't think we stocked the leechers yet. They were suppose to stock the WI strain....that might have been what you spotted, they look pretty similiar that young.

I could be wrong...but if memory serves me (which it rarely does).

Well that is not totally true muskyboy...

We ARE stocking at least 500 leechers this year...just don't think they have hit the water yet. There are ~700 leechers already in the Monona system that are now two year olds!

I just saw little muskie with spots! Not the smartest things out there, they are on the surface in about 3 ft of water. They stuck out like sore thumbs.

I've seen those on Monona too, down on the North end. Little guys, maybe 12 - 14". Not certain if they were Leechers or just juveniles. Don't they all start out with spots? Hope they don't make it down to Wingra or they'll be easy pickins for all the 50"ers in there

Thats awesome. I also saw a few little spotted ladies near the surface on Monona last night. I thought they cancelled stocking leechers due to the VHS Bla Bla.

Cory, are you guys stocking leechers again this year? I'll need to make some sort of donation to at least try to help.

Magruter, still got my number? Give me a call, we can still get out sometime soon.

Leechers are being stocked in Monona this year. The little buggers were tested to make sure they were free of VHS.

500 leechers with PIT tags (not sure if all will get tags or not) and WI strain fish also with PIT tags.

Capital City Chapter of muskies Inc is spearheading the project and working closely with the WIDNR. We have also gotten funds frm other clubs like the Flatlanders Chapter, Blackhawk muskie club and the Oregon Muskie Busters. We are still accepting donations if folks are interested...the more we get the more we can PIT tag these little buggers and the more leechers we can put in down the road!

Those are some great stocking pics! I love seeing little fish swimming in the water. My friend owns a fish store, and he's getting me 6 tiger musky from some place in FL to put in my tank at home.I can't wait till they get that big. The fry size I'm getting is only 3 inches tops.
Just a personal rant, and I really love the stocking efforts in WI, but a local club where I live is stocking a 300 acre pond that already has a large population of small fish. Now this year they are putting in Leech Lake strain. Plus the DNR stocks fry in there. The lake is only 20ft deep, and I think if they stock it, they are going to not only put undue stress on the fish/forage already in there, but also possibly stunt the fishery in the process. So sometimes stocking isn't all it's cracked up to be. Then there is another lake, approx 360 acrea, 120 ft deep, that gets the same amount of stocking. You are lucky to see 3 fish there in a day. The other lake you can catch 3 and see 20. So sometimes just becuase you have the means to get fish doesn't mean you should be stocking them in the water.
End of my rant, just something I had to get off my chest. I'm not ready to go to the DNR yet and request they yank their stocking permit. They just won't listen to myself and others complaining about it. Oh well, more little guys for my kids to catch.

Not to brag, but in 2006 the collective Chapters of Muskies Inc. stocked well over 30,000 Muskies into more than a dozen lakes nationwide. It cost them over $60,000 to stock those fish, and for other fisheries related expenses, like purchasing a boat motor for the DNR in one State, etc. It is certainly not cheap to stock muskies, as many of you are well aware of, so I'm happy to see any stocking that takes place.

I would like to see a "relocation program" put in place in some of those areas. I suppose its far too complicated to implement something like that, and expect it not to cost more than its worth, though. It just seems that on those lakes that are overpopulated it wouldn't take much more than the efforts of a few dozen anglers to keep all the fish they caught out of there and move them somewhere else.
