Posts: 427 Location: Wausau | I have seen and heard the water levels on many lakes are very low. I have been to three different lakes in the past month and was unable to gain access at the landing w/ a 1850 Crestliner. Any reports on water levels would be greatly appreciated. This is a difficult question to answer w/out giving away your little Lake X's, b/c I woudn't post the 3 Lakes I wanted to fish - so maybe if you're familiar with a bigger body of water use that as a reference. I.E. Manitowish Chain, Lake Minocqua, Lake Tomahawk, etc. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Levels are just about back to normal on Palmer. 2"-4" of rain late last week has brough up levels, dropped temps and brought water clarity to just about where everything is supposed to be.

No way?! It's going to take MUCH more than 2-4" of rain to get the lakes back up to normal!

Posts: 1120 Location: West Chester, OH | That must have been a real deluge up Land-o way. No rain further south.... We were in Vilas last weekend to close up for the winter & the level of our 200 acre pothole, just west of ER, had dropped 12" vertically since the first week of August. Had about 12' of new beach underneath the dock. Boat would not float off the lift & discovered rocks, etc. in the lake that I've never seen before. Visited a public landing on a similar-sized pond nearby & found the ramp probably useable but very low. The Rainbow Flowage, @ County J, is barely a trickle.... Fingers are crossed for some good snow this winter!

Posts: 20218 Location: oswego, il | Water levels in iron county were as much as 3ft low. They came up over a foot in one week. Lkaes are still low but nowhere near what they were.

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | Turtle Flambuae was 5 ft. low last weekend after the rains. One day we bumped 6 stumps. Springstead landing is OK, they added 16ft of concrete, still has some shallow rocks just off of the prop washout.

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | Drainage lakes are getting closer to normal, unless they are flood control drainage lakes then they are still very low. Seepage lakes are still very low. Most of the deep clear lakes are seepage. Ground water table needs to come back up before the seepage lakes get to normal level. Drainage lakes just need lots of runoff. With the ground being so dry these heavy rains cause more runoff so drainage lakes come up faster, it takes longer to replenish the ground water. Once you start seeing water in the dried up swamps you will start seeing a rise in seepage lake levels. I would keep that in mind as you search for fishable water. Good Luck, Nail A Pig! Mike

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | Good post Mike....never thought of it that way but makes sense! I am SOOO glad I bought my little 14 fott fiberglass lund in '06. There are MANY landings right now that the blow hole is fine...the problem is bigger, longer boats can't get over thr rubble BEHIND the blow hole.....these little boats can still drop into most puddles Able to fish two lakes last weekend that I couldn't have if I had pulled up my 1760 tuffy. Posts: 618 Location: Bloomington, MN | Those Lund Guide Boat were the Cats' Pajamas in my days!!! There was a group of Suick tosser's (Ortiz, Hielman(s.p.?), and Flannery) that ran all black versions of that boat style in the 70's on Pelican. They were the Muskie Guys (flannel shirts w/ no sleeves)!!! Then came Mr. Worrall with his baby blue/then bone colored version of that style of boat tossing 5" reapers and "no-fish" yellow combo globs of plastic with half ounce or less jigs to show everyone how it was done! Is it time for what comes around, goes around method of fishing make a come back?? I still have at least 8 lbs. of still soft Mann's anise oil sprayed yellow & black Fliptail Creatures & every color Reaper, and bags of1/2/&, 3/8 oz. Cairnes's/Worrall/Legend/Fishing Facts stand up/diamond jig heads, and spinning rods/reels that were ??perfect?? for that stlye of fishing.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Clark, Those black boats were the precursor to the Lund, a boat built in Shell Lake, WI called appropriately a Shell Lake Tri-hull. October on the weedlines...lookout, "eyes and Skis, the yellow creatures are out!

Posts: 618 Location: Bloomington, MN | Mr. Worrall, I'm sorry, but I couldn't remember Mr. Joe Hyland's name at the time of the post. I will be breaking out my Shimano Bass One loaded with 14#/17# clear blue Stren (all 100 yds. of it) with my Lew Childre Graphite Speed Stik with the custom stripper guide you could toss a golf ball through! I always got a kick out of the "Flats"/Mackinac using those baits because after the happy line hop followed by the fast snap, you didn't know what you hooked. I would give all the tea in China to have another on the water conversation with Mr. Red Dowd. I really miss those times, and should put the memorable Tweety Bird on the the transom of my boat with the subtitle "I twat I taw a Muskie!" in tribute to him. I've witnessed the number and quality of the fish that you caught on those baits in the 70's and early 80's. Mr. Jim Cairnes always brought in the biggest fish of the year during the mid-70's at Bayside Resort, beating out all the bucktail/Suick tossers (except for the year Mr. Dave Mayfield got a 40 lb. 4 oz.er on ayellow Mepps with his partner Mr. John Paustek). Would those baits still out produce? If you ever decide to go "Retro", and have a Creature instructional on-the-water class Pelican weekend, sign me up! It has been a long time since I've read this! http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/articles/09.13.2007/982/Of.Jigs.and... Edited by Clark A 9/27/2007 11:25 PM
