| Looking for good all around boat. My main fishing area has been small to mid sized lakes in northwest Wis. Looking to upgrade my tracker pro team 175 to handle some larger lakes in sawyer co. I started at bass pro looking at traker tournament V-18 base price 17k with 90 hp. Upgrades to a 115 opti. 24 volt trolling motor & GPS quickly put this boat into the low 20's. Next look was at crestliner. My locale dealer has a 2006 CMV-1850 with most upgrades 150 opti. 24v T.M. hyd. steering GPS cover contender package for 25k Also had a leftover 2006 Fish Hawk 1750 with 90 4-stroke cover GPS and 12v T.M. priced at 21,500 quoted over the phone have not seen the crestliners yet. Any opinions on these or other similer boats would be helpful. Questions; how much hp is needed, is hyd. steering needed, are these fair prices. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | 15 - 20k buys you a lot of boat if you would consider used and there are ways to shop the used market to really make a smart buy. sounds like you are interested in new which is of course a decision only able to be made by you, but 9 of 10 boat owners would likely steer you to a good quality used boat if they were in the same position with the numbers you mention. good luck which ever way you decide to go .... it's always great to bring home a new boat ... |

Location: Contrarian Island | like Sled said with that kind of budget you can get into a great used boat, probably one with warranty left to go and don't take the hit the day you drive a new one off the lot in depreciation...for that price you could easily get into a fully loaded Cliner, Lund, Alumacraft, possibly a bit older Ranger...take a look at some used one but if you are set on new the above mentioned boats are all great....can't go wrong either way...happy boat hunting |

| You can get a brand new 1700 deep vee tuffy console with a 75 or a 90 for that. I was looking at them a couple weeks ago. There is a couple of last year models out there new for a good deal. |

Location: Spencer, Wisconsin | I purchased my new 06' G3 locally and its the V170 and is very well stocked with some very nice basic treats compared to other boats that I looked at this summer. Stock motor is the yamaha 90 4-stroke with plenty of kick. The price ticket with a sore arm from arm wrestling was 17.5k out the door but I had to spring for the GPS-depth finder and the trolling motor and a couple other goodies. Still with all the extra toys it still was around 19k.
All in all I am a frugle person but am totally happy with the investment.

Location: Michigan | I would strongly consider used. Let somone else take the hit on depreciation. You can get a lot of boat for 20K if you are careful in the used market. It is also a very good time of year to look. Check out the classifieds on various websites. I like Walleye Centrals classifieds. I bought my last two used boats from there. I would recommend the max horsepower rating for the boat. I've been at the other end with too little, and there isn't much you can do to change it one you bought it. Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Find last year's hull (2006) that you like, walk into the dealer that sells it, and say "what do you have left?" Dealers do not like to sit on old hulls. They want to move them, NOW.
Case in point:
We bought a 2005 hull (in 2006, brand new) with a brand new motor for about 3-1/2 grand than the 2006 hull. They even set up financing, with a C.U. that was so good to us, we moved all of our loans over to them, and did not cost us one penny extra.
Dealers would rather sell last year's hull at almost cost, rather than sit on it. with that having been said, Lori and I are EXTREMELY happy with our Fisher 170 Hawk, made by TMG (Tracker Marine Group). If it was in our budget to snag a Tuffy, oh yeah, we sure would have. |

Location: Grinnell, Iowa | Glad to hear someone is in the same "boat" as I am. I too am fishing out of a Tracker 175 and am looking to upgrade. A few of the things I have noticed when comparing new to used is; depending on how old the boat is, your better financing will be on the new, but most used boats will come with the upgrade accessories that will cost you extra when buying new. I myself am leaning heavily towards the used side. I watch Heckels Marine web site quite often for used boats as well as this web sight.
Great advice by everyone who has responded to your post. I have used the info myself.

Around this time last year I got a good deal on a two year old Crestliner. Shop around spend some time deciding what you want You can get a heckuva deal if you keep your eyes peeled |

Location: Browerville, Minnesota | Just bought my new 07 Lund 1600 Explorer in July. Hung a 90hp Optimax on the back and with the electronics and TM, came to just under 21K. Love the boat and motor. Will run just shy of 45mph and the Opti is out of the world. Great on gas and oil, and was lighter and cheaper than a 4 stroke. I have the boat on Mille Lacs in some pretty rough water, and it did well. I have absolutely no regrets. I was looking at going the used boat route, but went new. |
