| Is there such a thing as a decent priced 8' or longer rod that could possibly come in a two-piece and have a extra-heavy action? I fished this weekend and threw a cow-girl and realized my stuff was way to light. This weekend I fished out of a boat, but normally I am a shore bound fisherman so I would like some that could be easily transported. |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I have an 8'6 Mania rod not sure on the action though. Paid $89 for it at BPS. I'm sure they have them in that action though. We throw them on 7' MH Croix's and Techna AV's |

Location: Brookfield | I had an 8 ft and a 9 1/2 ft St croix, they were 2pc rods. They both snapped like a firecracker throwing heavier baits. They were both older and out of warreny to top it off. I know it sucks transporting and storing 1pc longer rods but I wouldnt recomend going 2pc myself. I broke 1 with a bulldawg and the other with a 9" charlie an hour apart, I didnt bring 3 rods that day, had to go home earlyer than I wanted. Right now I am running all Shimano rods, they are priced at $69.00 for a 6'6" and $119.00 for an 8', both are extra heavy action. They arent as light as G-loomis or St croix but are alot cheaper and have a lifetime warrenty that they stand behind.

Location: Yahara River Chain | Tica makes both 8 & 8 1/2" XHeavy rods. While these rods are not two piece, the rod does slip down into the handle for a more compact option. They cost about $120. |

| I saw the Tica's and thought they might be a good option. I tried doing a search on them and all I could find was 1 post saying that the rod had snapped for the guy.

| I too would have to vote for the two piece Pro Edge 8 1/2 foot rod., It's a lot of rod for the money, and easy to transport. I wish more people would try this rod as it handles a wide range of lures and is a very powerful rod.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Okuma is coming out with a line of muskie rods where the longer rods are telescopic. I've been lucky enough to get to use the Heavy 8'6" model this year and I can't say enough about it. Sensitive in feel, powerful enough to throw the XX/Cowgirl type lures, and durable enough to put through the abuse I treat all my gear to. They aren't two piece, but the telescopic feature makes the rod break down to under 6', which makes storage and transport a whole lot nicer than with having to tote around rods at their full length.
I'm not sure where they are available right now, but I'll make sure Mark Rogers of Okuma sees this thread and can reply with how you can go get one! |

as Slamr mentioned, i also got my hands on the new 8'6" telesoping EVx Musky rod by Okuma with the XHvy power to throw really heavy stuff. the rating is for up to 12oz lures, but it easily handles lures beyond that.
the blank is much lighter than comparably priced rods like the Tica or St.Croix and the action is fast and even.
there are a couple of rods out already in this line, and this new rod should be available in the near future/off-season and is definitely worth considering, especially at such a good price point. it has the feel and action of a more expensive rod and comes with Okuma's lifetime warranty.

| I would recommend the TICA 8'6 X-heavy - great rod for the price --- Snapped any rod can snap if abused???

Location: Madison | I've got the TICA 8'6". It handles 1 - 8 ounces and telescopes down into the handle so I can even fit it into my Honda Civic. I love the rod, it's great! The price is not bad either ~ $120. |

Location: Iowa | I bought a TICA 8'6" XH and I really like the rod. It's great throwing the big bladed bucktails but It also handles everything else just fine too. From mag dawgs to water choppers to slammers to smaller double and regular bladed bucktails.
I am thinking of buying another one.

| I would also recommend looking at the 8 1/2' Lamiglas XH. A few friends have used this rod while in my boat and have gotten one as soon as they were off the water. This is the rod that I use for the Double Cow Girls, but I know it has been used for throwing Mag Dawgs as well as surface baits and jerk baits.

live in ireland and lures for pike fishing are about 5 years behind you guys
but we are slowly catching up
am looking at okuma x/heavy ror for magdawgs and suzy suckers will this rod handle them |

cowgirls are bucktails with two #10 size blades that create lots of pull and vibration.
the x-hvy Okuma rod will easily handle magnum dawgs and suzy suckers.
it's rated for 5-12oz lures.

Johnny, a cowgirl is a huge spinner. It features tinsel instead of hair and huge two blades on the shaft. The blades size is #10 Colorados (DC10 for short meaning double Colorado 10). The Cowgirls are made by Musky Mayhem Tackle and can be viewed at www.muskymayhemtackle.com

Location: Ontario, California | I should have the EVX-C-861H and XH versions in my warehouse around the middle of October. They are due to ship from the factory on the 25th of this month. I will let everyone know where they are going first. I just saw an order from Rollie & Hellens on them and I'm pretty sure that Smokies has an order in place also.
I have received the EVX-C-761MH, EVX-C-801H and the EVX-T-801H already. The EVX-C-801H is what I was using for XX / Cowgirls last summer. While it has less power than the 861H... it still has plenty of hookseting power and strength.
