Posts: 170 | This past week I caught my personal best, while solo in the boat!! Typically I wouldn't start my own message on this, but there aren't alot of muskies freaks in my circle of friends who would appreciate the rush when it all came together. Regardless, she was caught up on Eagle Lake while staying at Herbie's place. She ate on a figure 8, and I knew she would go...because as soon as she showed herself, I cranked it up a notch and her nose bumped right up to the bait. Once I made the full first turn at mach speed, she ate. A heck of a head shake on the surface then power dove. SLid her in the net and fortuantely had the camera already on the tri-pod. I only took one pic of me holding her (unfortunately the lower end is cut off) but then a good one of her paddling away. (that photo really shows her "width"). Caught on this bait I never heard of....."A Cowgirl, I think". LOL... Anyway, thanks for reading... Posts: 95 Location: LOTW every chance I get | Nice Fish! As someone who often fishes alone, I can appreciate the challenges and emotion of the event. Definitely a little more of a challenge netting and photographing on your own. My son likes to come along, but he doesn't have the endurance to be in the boat all day. Interestingly, I had almost the identical experience with a 50" class fish eating a Cowgirl on the 8 up at Minaki yesterday. The only difference was my fish spit the hook Congrats, Dave

Posts: 572 | Awsome...It shows you were prepared. Anyone who has a tripod ready for a picture has taken time to prepare the net, cutters, gloves, etc. in advance. That's impressive. You have a lot to be proud of. After seeing your release picture, I want to make sure I take a clothe tape measure for the girth...especially if I catch one like yours. That fish looked fat....and healthy. An 8:30 am Eagle Lake muskie on a Cowgirl..........hum...I have to get an earlier start and fish with a Cowgirl....next week on Eagle Lake. Thanks for sharing your experience.....and congratulations....you deserve it.

Posts: 170 | Muskie Bob - I did have a cloth tape, although tucked away and didn't want to mess with it. Everything else was in it's place and ready to go... Yep, she was "girthy"...oh well????? Cory...sounds like a great plan! Yep, if you guy's would have been handy for this one, a better pic could have been taken! But I tell ya, after re-thinking how this played out, it sure was an incredible flurry of action and it all worked out for the best...she swam away in perfect shape.

Posts: 170 | John...same back to you! Nope, I went after her (morning and evening) but she never showed. Much like Herbie said, the fish were really "moving", in that, they typically were not hanging on one given spot very long. Not many "second chances" during the week.

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Jim, I see you made it back up to AML. Congrats, I got a big fish in MN in June alone, and my battle did not go as smoothly, in fact I even dropped my net in the water but still got it done somehow. How are the conditions up there? I too am sneeking up there myself on the 22nd again, god I am awful lol

Posts: 170 | Brian, A pretty major cold front moved in over the weekend and I think temps are pretty low right now (like freezing overnight). This should kick the turnover in higher gear and maybe get it to pass quick. When the fish were active, they were active. Not many (if any at all) chances at a fish if you came back after her. They seemed to be moving from spot to spot. One stop at a location,,,nothing,,,come back later and fish are there,,,then the opposite,,,fish there,,,come back and nothing? Good luck...
