Take a look at the Tackle and Equipment forum, that's the pace to talk reels. Welcome aboard!

I fish 11 Calcutta 401 TE's. I have them serviced by Shimano every winter, and have never had any substantial problems with them. There is a clutch mechanism that's fairly inexpensive to have replaced, so I ask for that as well as the regular maintenance.

The reel is an absolute tank as far as I am concerned. I throw everything with it: Mag Bull Dawgs, DC 10's and Double Cowgirls, etc.

Pricey, yes, but it's the difference between driving a Mercedes rather than a Dodge Neon (with all due respect to anyone driving a Neon).

I have one hobby: Musky fishing. No kids, and I spoil myself when it comes to my boat, baits, rods, and reels.

We only live once!

I have 3 CONQUEST 400 AND 1 300 { JAPAN VERSION OF OUR CALCUTTA} I have replace the stock bearings with abec7 bearings and also replace the stock drag with carbonex drag washers from Smooth Drags, I put a lite coat of Cal's Drag grease on them polish the metal washers and this reel is the BEST REEL U can buy for musky fishing. Also I replace the stock oil and grease for HOT SAUCE GREASE AND OIL, the best oil and grease U can buy for a fishing reel. I have 4 Luna reels 2-203 and 2-253 I like these reels for baits that are 2oz and under and the Conquest reels for baits over 2oz. The Luna has a magnetic brakes and the Conquests have a centrifugal brakes, which I like for heavy baits. Also SHIMANO has the best SERVICE DEPT for reels if U do not service them yourself.
