Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Has anyone stayed here: http://www.andymyerslodge.com/ OR have any of you fished Eagle Lake? Any luck? We go in early June to Canada for pike but, I would like to hit this place for Muskie if it is a good lake and good resort. Thanks a lot! James

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | You can't stay at a better muskie camp anywhere.... I organized our Muskies Inc trip to Herbies this year. We go Sept 1-8. Hopefully I will be able to gave daily updates on site with pics etc.....of course thats the plan Tons of good words out there on Herbies place.....but the fishing can be awesome. Not as easy as say lake of the woods....but the queens swim there for sure. Our club last year avg fish for the trip was just a hair under 44 inches (won't get that on the woods) and 5 over 50 inches including a ~42 lber. check out his web page and reports page. pm me if you have any other questions... Posts: 28 | I didn't stay at AML so no opinion on the lodge but the lake is a great, especially if your looking to catch pike as well as muskie.

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Thanks guys! We target Muskie and pike but, it looks like we can catch a few wlleyes too for dinner. WE usually stay at Nungesser (sp?) at the Anglers Kingdom but, wanted some muckie on our trips. Lake of the Woods might be a good place too. A LOT less driving for us. Any good lodges in the Woods? We like 40hp 18 foot boats and a decent cabin if possible. Thanks again! James

Posts: 171 | thenextbite.com just had a good post about Eagle. "any good lodges in the Woods?" is way too open ended a question. The answer is "yes", of course. It's about 1,000,000 acres so you'll need to narrow your search quite a bit. Red Wing, Young's.....geez, the list is realllllllll long. Best of luck! ErieBoy75

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Erieboy75-Thanks for the LOTW names. I was trying to narrow the search as many resorts don't have 18 foot boats with 40hrs motors and nice cabins. I have stayed in teh ones with the holes in the floors and fed mice at night. It was fun until I felt one in the morning next to my leg. LOL taht was all it took for me to start paying a little more for a good place to stay. The island I stayed at this year and last (Anglers Kingdom) we had a 42 inch plasma and sat. internet in our cabin. It was the owners cabin but it was nice. Tried to "get away" but since we had the toys we did use them...

Posts: 97 Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan | AML is amazing. Great lodge, great lake, great owner, great guides, great everything. The upgrade boats there are exactly what you are looking for - nice 18 foot lunds with 40 hp motors and tons of room on the castings decks. I would suggest going there; it can be tough at some times but the rewards are worth it.

Posts: 6 | Going up there over labor day myself, will be between Osborne and Vermilion Bay, mainly fishing the match line south and east. Any advice for a newbie, I have 2 senior citizens and two teenagers coming, none of which have ever caught a Musky.......Whats the best advice for baits, We are well equiped but would like to know what one should start with? Thanks in advance Good Luck Tyee

Posts: 59 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Great lodge, just was there this past week and my dad and I got 12 for the week 30"-52.5"...posted under Fishing Reports. The guides there are top notch and herbie does everything to make your stay the best possible. You will have a chance at a hawg thats for sure, but if you need numbers there is Stewart, Indian, Canyon, Corner Bucktails and Grandmas work well up there

Posts: 171 | Grunt, Young's upgrade is a 16' with a 40hp. Seemed to be plenty of boat for that end of LOTW, but that's me. AML sure sounds good......I better put that on the schedule some time! ErieBoy75

Posts: 395 Location: NW WI | I know so many people are AML crazy, but I'd like to cast a vote for Cedar Point Lodge in Wahldoff Bay. GREAT people, newer cabins/condos and the kind of boats you are looking for. Bonus is that kids under 16 are not charged in the housekeeping plan, which can save some folks a lot of money. AML is spendy, but I know you get a lot fishingwise for your money.

I have the same unit, and yes, you can get the Navionics maps for Eagle. Worth it, yes and no. Its a spendy bit of change if you aren't going to use it regularly, but there is a lot of information about the lake out there, that you can certainly make use of.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Check out Waldoff bay lodge too. Dad is headed up there wednesday to see Silver Hunt, the owner and co. His rates are spectacular and he's located in as good a spot on Eagle(Vermillion Bay area) as any of the other mentioned areas. Did I mention his rates were spectacular?? Super people, super food, and super fishing. Silver also owns an island that he sometimes rents a cabin on, which is in the heart of prime Musky water on Vermillion Bay. We stayed on the island for a week and had a ball in 2005. Good luck!!

Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Whoolligan-Thanks for the info. One thing I have learned on these trip is, don't let $100 or so stop you from getting a few extra "Tools" for the trip to make it nice. I think the full set of GPS/Depth maps for my unit would be worth it for a lake I have never fished. I ahve trolled aroudn for 2 hours before with a map trying to find the structure I know is there. LOL I was usually onlly 100 yards off but in the middle of the lake I might as well ahve been 2 miles away Thanks! James

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | Hey Grunt be careful with those chips...they are accurate in some spots....and not so much in others. there are parts of eagle that the chips are good...like vermillion...but HORRIBLE on others. Some of my trails and best fishing spots are on land.....just think were some of YOUR trials may lead you that you think your on water.... Be VERY careful in canada using chips. They could cost you more than the 100 you spent to buy them!!! Cory

Posts: 1310 Location: Washington, PA | My vote would also go to andy meyers lodge. I just got back from there yesterday. I can say the fishing is great, and the service was even better. It is a bit more expensive, but I think you get what you pay for. The first night you get there they have a meeting about what is or isn't working, and there is a marked map on the wall for all to see, with the spots that are working. The mid week maid service is great also, and the guides and herbie are very accessible with any questions. By far the best resort I've stayed at in Canada.

Posts: 7113 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I know where I'd go.... http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=36... On the subject of CHIPS: I used the Navionics this and last year....pretty good in terms of where things are, but I wouldnt rely on it in the dark when you havent run those waters before....not the tool I would use to avoid hitting things under the boat. M1st outing there, 2008?

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Just checking Silvers site and ran accross this deal. Not too shabby for a weeks stay on/near Vermillion Bay with boat motor and gas. Dad and buddy are up there now. Apparently a few muskies have cooperated. Hope to hear the full report soon! http://www.waldhofbay.com/pricing.shtml
