Posts: 462 Location: Syracuse, Indiana | I am about to embark on my initial trip to sabaskong bay. My computer mapping functions each direct me to IFalls, then west in the states to Baudette where I am to cross the border (MapQuest sends me through Fort Frances). However, doing so causes me to travel back east once in Ontario before heading north. Further, Hwy 11 in MN appears (on my map) to be less direct than Canadian Hwy 11 west from Fort Frances. I anticipate arriving at the border between noon and 1 on Saturday. What are the advantages and disadvanage to each route? Thanks. Edited by dcates 9/12/2007 6:55 PM

Posts: 171 | We cross from Int'l Falls to Ft Frances, then head west on 11. At 71 we turn north to Nestor Falls & on. We'll be at Young's Wilderness Camp tomorrow by 3pm, if all goes well, and fish through Sunday. ErieBoy75

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | dcates will travel from Indiana to Morson and his final destination is Red Wing Lodge. Baudette/Rainy River is probably easier to cross as it most likely won't be congested. As far as "doubling back", its not that far, I think it about 10 -12 miles (one way). It may save you time if there is any amount of wait in IntlFalls/Ft Francis. At IntlFalls/Ft Francis you have to pay a fee ($10 for a car & trailer and $6 for a car) ) to use the Boise-Cascade bridge vs no fee at Baudette/Rainy River crossing.

Posts: 341 Location: In the slop! | Dave, if you cross at Baudette, take 600 North rather than 621. 621 was under construction a month ago, loose gravel for several miles. If it has been finished, someone chime in. I will be taking 600, (it's about the same distance). See you at the meeting on Friday!

Posts: 3505 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I would agree 100% with nut on this one.. Crossing over to Canada from I-falls probably is not too bad, but coming back can be extremely long, depending on what time of day and time of year you are crossing. I went through there last year, and the wait was well over 2 hours to cross back into Minnesota. Baudette/Rainy River is definitely the way to go. Wait time there...maybe, MAYBE 10 minutes at most. Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | It's a little closer to cross at I Falls but the time at Customs can make a differance. It also costs a few bucks to cross the bridge at I Falls. There's also a 60 KM zone (that's around 40 MPH) going through an Indian Reservation for around 6-7 miles on Canadian 11, just west of Emo, Ontario. I'd go to Baudette and cross at Rainy River. It nine miles back to 621. 621 is now O.K. Just drove it Thursday and Monday. Few miles of new gravel, but it's mostly off the tar now and not a problem. Doug Johnson

I plan on crossing at Baudette. Red Wing is about 40 miles from there. I got searched there once, but it only delayed me a few minutes. I had my driver's license, birth certificate, and proof of insurance, but they only asked for my driver's license. Crossing in Pembina took much longer. I'll be crossing in Baudette around 3:30 Sunday afternoon, so I hope it's not too bad. See you there. PS. Doug, you have any tips for us? ![]()

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Derrys - 9/13/2007 6:00 AM I got searched there once, but it only delayed me a few minutes. you have any tips for us? :) I have one. Get cleaned up. Cut the hair, shave, look presentable. Believe me it helps with NOT getting pulled aside and searched. Have fun at Red Wing this week!!!! ![]() ![]()

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | Had a fair trip with Jack Burns. We had a 47 and a 50, plus several others. All fish came off rocks. Lots of algae in spots, you need to watch the wind and run to find cleaner water. Doug Johson

I would call up there and find out if 621 is done. It's a long rock chipping trialer ride !! If not, take 600 just as you cross at Baudette!!

Location: Athens, Ohio | There's a good motel in Baudette, too, the Americana or something like that. Good grocery, too, don't wait till you cross the border for provisions! Safe travels, sir, I hope the meeting goes well. m
