Did you ever try to describe muskie fishing to someone who doesn't do it, or to someone who fishes, but not for muskies? I think I've finally found a description that people can understand...

Musky fishing is like a two year old with a jack in the box. You sit there turning the crank, knowing that eventually the %^&* thing is going to come flying out of there and scare the bejesus out of you, but for some morbid reason, you just can't help but do it again and again...

I explain it like this.

Hours of endless boredom interrupted by moments of sheer terror.

Or...

"A muskie fisherman is a person with a weak mind and a strong back"...

Seriously though, I liken it to deer (and other big game) hunting. There are seasonal patterns, the little ones still get the blood going and are fiesty, but the big ones (male- deer / female - muskies) are the ones that really turn our crank. Weather has a big effect on their movements, once you have one located, chances are he/she will be back, and there are many more similarities...EXCEPT, it's pretty hard to do the CPR thing once I release my arrow or squeeze the trigger!

One other thing...I have less and less friends that are into muskie fishing these years, so my time on the water has also been less and less, and that SUCKS.

Hey EA, if you're working a glider, how would your mind reconcile the need for both the 'chicken dance' and 'pop goes the weagle' running through it?

Just and think about it. If you did not fish...what would you think about muskie fishing?

Muskie fishing is stupid...to people that don't fish

Hi all,

I desribe it like this " Musky fishing is like being kicked in the crotch all day by your wife's father, then having an ice bag applied to them by a super hot nurse with a cold beer in one hand and a plate of BBQ ribs in the other". Sorry if this was to crude.

Reelwise, sometimes even I think muskie fishing is stupid! I mean lets face it, it IS. First you spend a fortune on rods, reels, lures, etc. Then you need a boat, and a truck... Then you stand out there on the boat all day long casting lures that you could hurt someone with, and sometimes you don't even SEE a fish. When you do see one you usually don't catch it. When you DO catch one, all you do is unhook it, take a picture of it, and put it back in the water. And you do all that so you can show the picture to your wife/girlfriend and listen to her say "yuck, that thing's ugly and slimy. Why don't you take a shower before you touch me? And brush your teeth you smell like beer!" Then you have to listen to her whine about how you'd rather spend Saturday on a boat with your guy friends drinking beer playing with slimy fish than spend it with her at the mall buying a bunch of overpriced shoes that you have no use whatsoever for that only get you in trouble when you don't notice she's wearing them. THEN, because you were out on the boat with the guys all day long, instead of saying "Gee honey, I really like those shoes!" you say something stupid like "I wasn't lookin' at 'yer feet, I was lookin' at 'yer A--!" And she says "well, look all you want, you ain't touching it. Why don't you go FISHING!" Soooo you crack a beer and put on the game and wonder why the hell you even bother talking to her when all she does is b*tch.

maybe musky fishing ain't so stupid after all!

And there we have it. I knew you would get there Jeff. Now just sit back and have the ice bag adjusted once in awhile. Because no matter what you will get your nuts kicked in. Maybe I've stumbled on the meaning of life.

Muskie fishing is like when you meet Chuck Norris and he says "2 seconds 'till...."

And you say "2 seconds until what?" Then he roundhouse kicks you in the side of the head.

EA - dude, you gotta find the right woman. Mine fishes with me, hates to shop (unless it's Cabela's, Gander, Bass Pro), fixes the lunches and the bonus round is if the weather is too crappy to fish (admit it, sometimes it's either lightning or the waves are too big for your rig) the other option is nearby! I never thought it was possible either, but it's true! I'm not trying to brag.....just trying to convert another fisherman to the good life.
Best of luck to all!!!!

To me Muskie fishing is the only sport that you can spend hours-days-months without a bite, follow or even a peek of a lunge then suddenly you just about P*ss yourself when you get a follow or a SLAM on you $30 lure then its allover with. The lure is shot, the lunge made you wet yourself then all you have is a 3 second memory of what could of happened.

Funny thing I do it every year and have a blast doing it. Not P*ssing myself mind ya, but my 3 second memory ride. Oh yea after about 50 thousand casts im blessed from the Lunge Gods with a modest toothy critter.

I still love it!

Oh no...muskie fishing is not stupid to me. I don't think so at all, but explain to someone that does not fish what you do for these fish... or better yet, take them out. They will either love it or think it's the stupidest (is that a word?) sport/activity they have ever done.

Its too bad every girl I'm ever attracted to and stumble into a relationship with absolutely HATES fishing. "Oh I want to and will go fishing with you!" Yeaaahhh, right.... NEVER happens. Oh well, at least she won't ever smell like fish in the bed :)

I compare it too moose hunting ......you call and call then a big brute shows itself. Even if one doesn't show but you get a glimpse your heart starts racing. Gets you hooked big time .
