Subject: Motor Hours

Another used motor question. What is considered a lot of hours on a motor, or the expected hour life of a motor? Where does 250 hours fit in the mix?

Thanks for your information.

I have been told by some pretty respectable sources that expected life expectancy on out boards is ; 2000-2500 hours for a 2 stroke, and 15,000 for a four stroke. I was told this a few years back when four strokes were first becoming popular. I not sure if this applies to the newer technology 2 strokes as well. For the four strokes he said that proper care and maintenence was critical as well as letting the motor warm to operating temperature before hammering the thottle.
