do you need a 50 inch livewell for tournaments or can you just keep the fish in the net in the water? thanks

depends on the type of tournament you're fishing.

if you're fishing an immediate release/digital photo format or a judge boat tourney, a net will be fine. coated bags that won't split the fins are especially nice.

if it's a transport tourney, you'll need a livewell that's capable of safely transporting the fish to the judge station: long enough and wide enough to hold the fish and not bang it around. pumps and intakes capable of keeping fresh water flowing even while the boat's on plane are a real bonus.
