Posts: 32955 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We moved several muskies today during my 'break' between the Morning Ceremonies of the Wabigoon PWT and the Final Day weigh-in, with Merv holding the Tuffy 1890 DS EDV back deck duties. He did pretty well! The In Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail Super Pros are catching muskies too, MANY in the 40 to 50" class, and three over 50 yesterday; one on film in Mark Brumbaugh's Lund, another in Marty Glorvigen's Lund...and at least two the day before. They are catching the fish casting cranks for 'eyes in very shallow water off rock tips and reefs along the shoreline and on points. Looks like I need to try that... Actually, the three fish today were caught in very similar water. We just used Muskie lures...can you imagine the results of a 120 boat muskie event up here? Crestliner/Mercury Pro Dan Plautz got a 50 early in the week fishing muskies in the evening after prefishing for the tourney. I'll post the image when I get a chance to transfer it from WalleyeFIRST. Totals for the week for me and my boat partners: 35.5 37.75 38 41.25 42 43.25 48 Pike About twenty between 30" and 37" 38 38 39.5 40.25 40 41 A great 'working vacation' and opportunity to get a few outdoor writers in the rig. Back home tomorrow! Posts: 32955 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The interesting thing is those three fish and a few more we moved without hooking up were all on a small complex of three little islands, and a sand bar attaching that complex to the South Shore; all in the current coming in from the secondary river channel. There are several small patches of cabbage between the rocks and shorelines on the Islands and main shore. The entire piece of water is at the most 70 yards long. Merv stuck all three in about an hour, I missed a good one, caught a 34" Pike, and moved two more. Worked that structure over and over, moving fish every time. Classic spot for sure. BUT...first and second time through...nothing. We stayed and worked the area completely waiting for them to go ( we were in the center of the Major), in the tradition of Howie Meyer; why leave fish to find fish? The last fish is Dan Plautz with his 50. There were at least three a day of that quality caught by the PWT Pros fishing the three day long PWT Super Pro on the Goon this week. The Pros were catching the big Muskies pitching cranks into the shallows; seems the Walleyes, Muskies, Smallmouth, and big Pike ALL can inhabit the skinny water on the Goon at the same time. I learned about location of some of the big Goon Pike and Muskies from this event, that's for sure. It's interesting watching some of the 'best of the best' out working every reef, weedline, current break, or other fishy feature for a week; they WILL find the fish and certainly reconfirmed quite a bit I suspected about the Goon Muskies and tasught me a whole lot more. An entertaining and successful trip for sure. Indian Point Camp was absolutely the HOME of hospitality for us and for a number of the Walleye Pros; thanks again to all the folks at the Camp for a great week. More Muskie shots later, those are on another camera and that lucky dog is still up there fishing Wabigoon and surrounding waters. Posts: 32955 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | More images later when JK gets back from his trip. We caught three Muskies and a few big pike out on the Goon last week, and used his camera to shoot the images. it was a pleasure to fish with Mr. Kalkofen again, we need to share a boat more often.

Posts: 32955 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Looks like temps up there in the 30 to 34 degree range again this week. That will change the pattern to reef edges and active current areas. MAN I wish I was still up at Indian Point Camp.....

| Hey Steve, you really need to brush up on your musky lingo. The term "hat trick" was changed several years ago. Talk to me or Norm and we can fill you in! | |||
